Readers’ Column for the week of Dec. 3, 2017

You may call the Owego Pennysaver Readers’ Column at (607) 687-2378 24-hours a day, or e-mail comments to readerscolumn@stny.rr.com. We reserve the right to revise or reject any message.

I went back to college at 58 years old and got a Bachelor’s Degree in Social. This week I went to a restaurant and saw two little girls and their parents. After the rest room, the six year old tried to carry the three year old, dragging her to the table, trying to sit her in her chair! I wondered why the mother didn’t help! Suddenly the three year old started screaming and the man, angry, took her outside. As I left, I saw the man put the three year old against the building and he was holding her arms, saying, “You go back, straighten up or you won’t see your mother again.” I yelled at him, your three year old doesn’t understand. He said yes she does! I went back in the restaurant because I forgot my cookies. The woman with him and the girls came out alone. I asked, is he the father? She said yes, the three year old stays with them a lot, and she has trouble at home where she lives. Here’s what the three year old learned. In every divorce, the children are terrified to lose a parent. A three year old will always not trust, always be afraid of losing her mother, and learn that when she is scared and crying, you don’t show your true feelings, be perfect or you will lose our mother! Both adults said to me the three year old understands. “NO”, THEY don’t understand the damage to that child!

Looking for a large regular camouflage army field jacket. My number is 659-3354.

I’m the reader who called in complaining about tailgaters. Someone responded that I should be doing the speed limit to avoid that problem. I normally go about five miles above the speed limit.

Senator Fred Akshar is spending way too much taxpayer money on slowing down opium addiction. Everyone has a choice to take drugs or not to take. Taxpayer money could better be used to improve the poor and the lives of seniors. The dollars spent on drugs is only helping a few people compared to how many more poor or seniors it could be helping.

I was reading in the Pennysaver about the elderly person whose hearing aid quit and needed an organization to help. The Department of Aging may be able to help, call 687-4120. God bless and I hope you can get a new hearing aid. Have a Merry Christmas!

Jeanine Pirro from Fox News is going to get hers, finally. The nerve of her driving 119 mph in the Town of Nichols, N.Y. last Sunday. She could have killed you, your family, anyone on the road and I am so glad she got stopped by the State Police. I’d like to know what kind of a district attorney she was at one time. She’s not considerate of other people. Take away her keys, lock her up, lock her up!

~

119 miles an hour? Are you kidding me? She’s a judge and doesn’t know any better than that? Well I hope nobody takes any pity on her. There’s a lot of damage you can do. What a lame excuse, her sick mother! It wasn’t even a big emergency. If she can’t pay attention when she’s driving, Lord knows what I would do in front of her. They should throw the book at her, take her license away and let her go through the whole thing just like anybody else!

~

I would like to say thanks to the team at Peak Performance. They are friendly and very helpful with your needs.

I know you will not print this because it is 180 degrees from your story on Maurice Hinchey. He is not the wonderful congressman as portrayed in your story. I’ll state some facts. Hinchey was always dreaming up new laws to take people’s guns away but he was caught at the airport with an illegal pistol in his luggage. All they did was take it away. Federal crimes require jail time. Double standards!

Friends of Hospice Tree of Lights memorials will be printed in the Owego Pennysaver on Dec. 10, 17 and 24.

I’d like to thank the auction company for sharing the assessment and taxes on the house being auctioned at 159 Temple Street in the Village of Owego. To all looking to sell and all looking to buy in the village, beware. Taxes on this $75,000 home are $4,500 per year; for a $150,000 home taxes are $9,000 a year, and on a $225,000 home taxes are approximately $13,500 a year. This is outrageous! They are higher than the taxes in Long Island, the New Jersey shore, Connecticut and Northern New Jersey. The next time you drive through Owego and see the for sale signs, you’ll know why.

To the man whose father was a Pearl Harbor survivor and wanted to trade stories with a local survivor, I lost your phone number, please call 223-4048.

To the restaurants that serve breakfast scrambled eggs in a wrap you save toast, butter and jelly. The customer can enjoy warm eggs to the last crumb.

My name is Tegan, I wanted to let our families in Tioga County know that Family Enrichment Network still has openings for three and four year olds in our Head Start Programs and we are accepting applications for children starting at six weeks for our Early Head Start Programs. For more information, please feel free to contact me at (607) 687-6721 extension 1104.

I agree with this weeks comment about the intersection of Main and Pennsylvania Avenue in Apalachin. It’s impossible to see if there are any vehicles traveling south from 434. I hope that business or someone from the town of Owego sees this post and moves their used cars back a few feet before there is a serious accident there.

~

I think that it is wonderful that we feed the poor or someone who is having temporary tough times, but there are so many distribution points in Tioga and close-by surrounding counties that there should be some kind of central control, so that a recipient cannot go to several distribution points and get free goods and discharge what they do not want.

If there are railroad tracks on Marshland road someone should dig them up for the current price of steel. It might pay for the paving project.

National Political Viewpoints

Through all her campaign Hillary said she was a champion for women. What a joke! Now as Bill’s womanizing past keeps coming back up in the news, we find out that she discredited every woman accuser that came forward. She’s all about the Clinton’s and no one else. Even with a rigged campaign she didn’t win in November. Go figure! The American people are smarter than she gave us credit for and now she’s on a “who to blame tour” as to why she’s not in the White House.

~

What are we going to do when we lose John McCain, the one decent voice within the Republican Party that speaks with integrity and honor? Who are we going to look to then?

~

Welcome to the mind bending, crybaby, Trump deranged, Marxist Democrat tantrum fest! The unemployment rate is at a 17 year low; for you liberals, that means more jobs. The hoard of illegal’s jumping over our borders is down over 75 percent. President Trump’s new military rules of engagement versus the Obama capitulation philosophy has led to decisive Isis defeats in the heart of their Caliphate headquarters in Raqqa and Mosul. The new tax bill will pass by the end of the year. It is a simple one-page form. You will love it! Businesses are investing in expansion again and your tax bill will go down by over $1,200 per taxpaying family. So much for the never Trump fear mongers.

~

If you haven’t noticed that the press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders isn’t called Sarah Huckabee Sanders anymore, it’s just Sarah Sanders. It’s because the Huckabees don’t want to be associated with this administration. That tells you something!

~

I see Cuomo wants to run for yet another term of governorship. Isn’t he done ruining the state? And rumors are going around he might even seek the presidency. Don’t let him ruin the whole country too!

~

Let’s all hope Bob Mueller does his job and gets that crooked Trump out of office. Thank God Michael Flynn is finally showing some common sense. Let’s get Trump out of there and get this country back on track. What a nightmare this has been with him in there!

~

How refreshing, this year’s Christmas card from the White House actually wishes you a Merry Christmas! Now Obama’s card wished you Happy Holidays, whatever that means, I don’t know.

~

The despicable Democrats are resisting tax cuts for working taxpayers. They are resisting real illegal alien immigration reform. They are resisting building the southern wall and they are resisting necessary funding to run the U.S.A. economy, which has just reported record 3.3 percent GDP. Go Trump!

~

I think China is having North Korea test missiles for them. Chinese banks are bankrolling the missile program, this way North Korea is looking like the bad nation, not China. The Chinese leader wants Donald Trump to think he’s a nice guy.

~

I think we all know Rex Tillerson has it right. Donald Trump is a moron.

~

Mr. Trump sure has his hands full. I doubt if he’ll ever be able to clean up the entire swamp! There’s so much corruption, abuse and childish behavior. While he’s working on this mess it’s only taking him away from working on the issues of importance, issues that matter.

~

Do my eyes deceive me? The Republican Party is not only traitors and thieves, but now openly support pedophilia? They would rather support child molesting Roy Moore over a candidate that secured guilty verdicts over men that murdered four little girls in a church.

~

Apple is the most profitable company in America, yet it stashes billions of dollars in overseas tax havens to avoid paying its fair share of taxes. Companies dodging the IRS cheat our country out of about $70 billion a year. Congress doesn’t give a hoot. In fact, the Republicans are proposing to gift companies like Apple even greater tax breaks, with incentives to export corporate profits – and American jobs – to low-tax countries. Claudia Tenney runs TV ads claiming support for a “middle class tax cut.” Not so. The Republican tax plan is a sham and a scam. Let Reed and Tenney know the working people of the Southern Tier – and America – are fed up with being conned.

~

As a conservative republican, I often disagreed with President Obama, but I never for a minute doubted his intelligence, his integrity or his sanity. Today we have a President whom two top advisors refer to as a moron and an idiot.

~

The Republican tax bill sets off $28 billion a year in automatic cuts to Medicare.

~

The proposed Republican tax reform plan will add new subsidies for private jets while taking away tax deductions for the parents of disabled kids. Not good for working people.

~

I was appalled that President Trump thought he had to add a dig to Senator Warren during a ceremony to honor Native Americans. I’m neither for against the senator, but the president should save his comments for the campaign trail. I am so sick of the name-calling. When is he going to stop acting childish and start acting more presidential?

~

I have an idea to solve the childish, spoiled brat behavior of some NFL players. How about owners simply tell their employees (players) to take a knee if they so desire, but know they don’t play that game or get paid if they don’t play. Let’s test the depth of their conviction! Raise your hand if you think they’d give up big bucks to continue this nonsense.
