Guest Editorial: Be enlightened. Be inspired. Attend Library Programs!

Many ask, “Why are library programs important?” Every week when I see the light in a child’s eyes as they try out a new skill or catch the look of joy when a patron finds a new interest, it reminds me of the many ways library programs are important.

Library programs give you and your family the opportunity to meet new people, to learn new things, and to engage with creativity and curiosity. Even better, when you are finished, you can begin an adventure by diving into one of the thousands of books that surround you in our beautiful, historic building.

This year the Coburn Free Library has held close to 100 programs for all age groups throughout the year. That means that every month there are new opportunities to join in the fun.

Programs vary from Toddler Story Hour and PAWS to Read programs for children, to book discussions, arts and crafts, educational presentations, and computer support for teens and adults. With one quick look at our online calendar available at coburnfreelibrary.org or the Coburn Free Library Facebook page, you’ll see, in one place, what’s happening at the library.

This month the Coburn Free Library is proud to introduce a new program Make It and Take It. This program provides all supplies necessary to free your inner artist and create a fun, seasonal picture frame for fall or winter, your choice. Thanks to Senator Fred Akshar and the BOOKS Program for making this and many other programs possible. Make It and Take It is completely free, but registration is required.

With all of the opportunities to become involved, there is something to keep in mind. Registration is important! In order for the Library to ensure adequate space and supplies for all who attend, we need to know how many to expect. This makes registration very important and we make it easy. Registration is as simple as a call or a visit to the circulation desk.

No matter what brings you through the doors of your local library, you will find resources, education, entertainment, socialization, and much more. Be enlightened. Be inspired. Attend Library Programs!
