Germany Hill history topic of Riverow Bookshop reading on November 18

Jean Hefft, author of Crossroads: Where Church and Community Meet, A History of Germany Hill, Tioga County, New York, will be at Riverow Bookshop on Saturday, Nov. 18 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Hefft, historian of the Germany Hill United Methodist Church, assembled the information with many photos and maps to create a history of the church and area from 1830 to the present, including a comprehensive history of Straights Corners Cemetery.

The small, rural Germany Hill community was made up of immigrants of French and German descent seeking more farmland, freedom, and opportunity in early 1800s America. Hefft tells of their struggles and experiences clearing the land, building homes, fighting diseases, and general day-to-day survival.

Riverow Bookshop is located at 187 Front St. in Owego. For more information, Follow them on Facebook or call (607) 687-4094.
