A New Hope Center has expanded into Waverly, N.Y. with a new location located within the Broad Street Plaza.

The victim service center is a branch office of the Owego, N.Y. location, which has been serving Tioga County since 1986.

On Thursday, a grand opening event, held at the Waverly location, welcomed guests and area residents to check out the office space and learn a bit more about A New Hope Center.

According to Executive Director Fran Bialy, it serves as the victim service program for Tioga County, in which each county in the state of New York is required to have.

A New Hope Center offers free and confidential help to those victimized by domestic violence, sexual assault and other forms of abuse.

Everything that the center offers at its Owego location can be performed, or can at least be started at the Waverly office.

Bialy remarked that the service is not only for residents of Tioga County, as it has helped people from as far away as California.

He went on to state that 20-percent of the nearly 1,200 people that the center assists each year are from the Waverly, Barton and Lockwood areas.

Bialy related that he believes with the new office, more people in the area will be helped.

“By being here they can access us quickly and easily,” said Bialy during Thursday’s grand opening event.

The center welcomes walk-ins, as Bialy stated that the majority of those seen come in that way.

A New Hope Center offers a 24-hour-a-day hotline at (607) 687-6866 or (800) 696-7600 and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
