Readers’ Column for the week of Nov. 5, 2017

You may call the Owego Pennysaver Readers’ Column at (607) 687-2378 24-hours a day, or e-mail comments to readerscolumn@stny.rr.com. We reserve the right to revise or reject any message.

I am looking for someone reliable to plow snow in the Campville area if we should get a storm. I am looking for someone who can do the driveway. Please respond to this column with your name and number.

First of all, I’d like to thank the Pennysaver for providing this comment section. It provides a nice public forum for us common folk to express our opinions. Now for the point of my call, where can I find an organization that will take old glasses, like reading and vision type glasses? I think the Lion’s Club used to. Where is the Lion’s Club? I have a bag full of them and I think someone could use them instead of me tossing them out. Again, many thanks to the Pennysaver for this nice public service.

I just saw an item on the WBNG news broadcast that there’s a petition to get a bridge between Endwell and Vestal, and they never mentioned where I can go to sign this petition. Do any of the Pennysaver readers know where I can go to lend my support for this wonderful idea?

In response to speed limits. Just because there is no minimum speed and you don’t care and you are retired and you just cruise and you are in no hurry, there’s no reason to be an accident waiting to happen and that’s exactly what you are. When you look in the mirror and see lots of cars backed up behind you, I’m wondering what’s going on in your head. Could you be a little less childish and maybe a little more of a considerate adult and pull over? Think about it for God’s sake!

As far as I can tell there is no mass conspiracy in sports to gain power for schools. Sports mergers by small schools like S-VE – Candor, Harpursville – Afton, Odessa – Watkins Glen, etc., are done because the individual schools cannot get students interested enough to field teams on their own. Other mergers are due to school district consolidations. Binghamton used to have North and Central. Corning – Painted Post were separate. Spencer and Van Etten were separate. If school has a hyphen it is because it most likely used to be separate systems.

I just had a zipper replaced, GREAT job Jean! Glad you are still sewing. Jean’s phone number is 687-2069.

Is there an organization in the area that collects eyeglasses and hearing aids? If so, will someone please put a phone number in next week’s Pennysaver?

National Political Viewpoints

The Koch Brothers couldn’t spend all of their money in two lifetimes. So, why do they want mine?

Happy Birthday to the United States Marines on Friday, Nov. 10. They have been defending America’s freedom since 1775!

~

Donald Trump is an ignoramus. Let’s see if you can spell that.

~

Well, the proof’s there. Our local Congressman, Mr. Tom Reed, sided in with the billionaires of Wall Street and turned his back on the working families of New York. I’ve been saying this for months. He’s nothing but a stooge for the Republican billionaires in congress. He fully supports this new tax bill, even though it’s going to cost New Yorkers thousands and thousands of dollars in taxes. All the hard working families are going to pay more while the billionaires are getting huge tax cuts, and that’s a fact!

How many viewers of Fox News love the reporters self-promoting their own books? I enjoy Fox News very much reporting the news, but not promoting book sales by their reporters. Fox News should have them buy airtime or buy a commercial promoting their books or movies. Why should the reporters get free airtime for self promoting? I expect Fox to report the news, and when they promote books sales I feel I’m getting screwed. The time they spend trying to sell their books I’m missing out on reporting the news. They will lose viewership because of this.

Hurray, hurray! Impeachment for Donald Trump is on its way!

The Marxist Democrats are not poor losers. They are just bad losers. They moan and groan about everything our great and wonderful President Trump is doing to help even them. The big mouth radicals rant about Trump’s tax plan, which has not even been finalized. The Socialist buffoons rant about Trump, but don’t mention Slick Willy he abhorred the military and nobama never served anyone but his commie buddies. The economy is humming along; jobs signs are into every store I go into locally. The stock market is at record high and Trump is a magnificent Commander in Chief. The dimwit Dems are green with envy and the U.S.A. will be great once more.

~

Democrats are not poor losers but the wrong person, a creep without brains, became president. He will ruin this country. The Democrats just want a smart and sane president, even if he was a Republican we would welcome it after this guy.

~

Hillary is a piece of thread that just keeps unraveling and unraveling. I see no end in sight for her and her corrupt ways.

~

Our nation is more divided than ever. Hillary and Obama did a lot of damage and continue to divide us whenever they speak. We need to ignore them. We must move beyond ourselves and the issues that divide us. We need to follow our heavenly father and what he says.

~

Oh my goodness, I was just watching Fox and Friends. They were showing a clip of Hillary Clinton giving a speech. Has anybody every told her you don’t stand on national TV in front of a microphone in front of millions of people chewing gum with your mouth wide open? That was really something. How many other people saw that?

~

Republicans in congress know deep down that the FBI always gets their man. What is that cloud over the White House? What? Me worry?

~

Justice and investigations. It’s good news for some of us that presidential pardons do not apply to crimes committed in New York State. Thank you.

~

Once again, Nancy Pelosi got her face in front of the cameras and made the statement, “The Republican tax cut plan doesn’t make sense. We don’t see anything in it that makes sense.” Question: Where’s the plan provided by the Libs? Why is it always obstruction, obstruction, never offer their own plan so that both can be debated and an agreement reached, perhaps using pieces of each to arrive at the best solution to the existing problem?

~

Enough is enough! As much as I dislike them, too many tax dollars have already been spent investigating the Clintons. We have had grand juries, congressional hearings and FBI probes, and they have found nothing illegal. No amount of wishful thinking on the part of the far right will change that.
