Tioga County Health Department holds successful Preparedness Drill

On Sept. 28, the Tioga County Public Health conducted a Point of Dispensing (POD) drill at the Health and Human Services building in Owego. The drill was to practice vaccinating large groups of people as quickly as possible. In less than five minutes, participants were registered, received education and the flu shot.

Aside from some technical problems in the beginning, the drill was an overall success. Tioga County Legislator Bill Standinger attended the event, and applauded staff in efforts towards creating a more prepared department.

Tioga County Public Health Director, Lisa McCafferty, wants to remind the community, “You can’t always predict a disaster, but YOU CAN PREPARE for one.”

Tioga County Public Health looks forward to exercising more drills like this one, and partnering with other organizations and residents to ensure Tioga County is prepared for any disaster.
