Opinion: Better to have a tenant than a vacant house

Dear Editor,

The best thing for a house is to have it lived in by the owner. If not the owner, then it is still better to have a tenant than to have a vacant house.

In any case, the owner wants to maintain the value of his property. The owner does this by making necessary repairs, the sooner the better.

In the case of historical homes in Owego, I believe it to be more important to make the repairs than it is to duplicate the materials and methods of construction as used when the house was built. That is too expensive, resulting in the repairs not being made. That in turn will lead to eventual ruin of the house.

No one wants that to happen.

Sincerely,

Karl Tiemann

Owego, N.Y.
