Excitement is mounting as the cast of Dancing United with the Starz ‘17 prepares to entertain the crowd on Dec. 2, 2017 at the grand opening of Tioga Downs’ new ballroom in Nichols, N.Y. In its third season, this fundraiser is being hosted by the Tioga United Way, serving 34 agencies across the county addressing issues such as food insecurity, domestic abuse, illiteracy, dispute and resolution, transportation, childcare, eldercare, programs for the disabled, youth, isolated and more.
Like the hit TV show, area dance instructors have been paired with local celebrities to learn dance moves and routines in salsa, cha cha, swing, tango, fox trot, jive and night club two step. Each couple will dazzle the crowd and be judged by highly regarded dancers who have competed in dance competitions themselves.
The starz and their instructors have not only committed to preparing their dance routine, but have secured sponsors and are now campaigning for your vote. The couple who receives the most votes in cash contributions will be the proud recipient of the “People’s Choice” mirror ball trophy.
Collection cans have been placed in local businesses around the county. In an effort to win the trophy, some dancers have dressed up as fortunetellers, raffled off treadmills, guest bartended, hosted pop-up noodle houses, and reached out to overseas friends looking for votes in the form of contributions to the Tioga United Way.
Tickets went on sale at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at the Tioga United Way office located at 24 State Route 96 in Owego. There are a limited number of seats, and rumor has it that the show will sell out within an hour yet again!
