Art work by Lory Weisz.

October brings out a special creativity in the Black Cat Gallery eclectic artists, Chris Knickerbocker and Lory Weisz. Chris loves Halloween and the spooky festivities, the spiritual and the oddities surrounding the holiday.

Lory Weisz’ artwork is along parallel lines, adding her specialty of taxidermy to the mix. Lory’s first collaboration with Chris is pretty special and a little bit thrilling, just check out the storefront windows.

Make sure you drop by and view their one of a kind work and experience some special surprises during the Black Cat Gallery’s Art Walk, held Oct. 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. in downtown Owego.

Oddity rules the day and evening at the Black Cat Gallery as they present their customary lyrical First Friday with some other kind of fare.

Enter Carrie Tornatore as “The Gypsy Woman” and her colleague, Jim Tornatore, the infamous “Dr. Bump”.  This Gypsy Woman; she may speak language we have not heard before, she may describe fortune telling as you have not heard before, she may describe her voyages to places of the mind and spirit.

This friend of the Gypsy Woman; Dr. Bump is another matter entirely. He may astound us, he may embarrass us, and he may embarrass you – we just do not know. This debunked pseudoscience Doctor of Phrenology, via the Edinburgh Phenomenological Society will look you in the eyes, see your brain and measure your head. He will tell you of things that cranium of yours is silently speaking. He is an old codger, born in 1796 and well beyond his prime. Yet, he talks; he walks; and will tell you what ails your mind or body.

Newark Valley resident Carrie Dru Tornatore (Gypsy Woman) exhibits her fine artistry at Black Cat Gallery in Owego. Did you know Carrie just illustrated a book?

“The Modern Day Burning Bush” is illustrated by Carrie and written by Eileen Morock. Signed copies are available next to Carrie’s artwork.

Come get your fortune told!
