The sunny skies provided the final ingredient for a successful and expanding car and motorcycle show, held Saturday, Sept. 23 at Tioga Downs Casino in Nichols, N.Y. Taking place on the infield track, hundreds of custom and antique cars and motorcycles filled up space, with the new hotel, expected to open in November, serving nicely as a backdrop.
There was a blend of charity, nostalgia and intrigue, as Paul Teutul, Sr., from Orange County Choppers, greeted fans that were lined up and waiting near the concessions available at the show.
Around the track, antique car enthusiasts, owners and collectors displayed their polished vehicles, many adding props to coincide with the model or year of the car and many had signage, letting guests delve into the history of the most expensive toy in their garage.
Santa also arrived early at the car show, with motorcyclists that gathered at Southern Tier Harley Davidson in Binghamton converging for a ride to the show, all while raising money to purchase gifts for children this holiday season.
According to Carrie Graham, marketing coordinator at Southern Tier Harley Davidson, there were 122 participants in the fundraising effort comprised of 100 motorcycles. The ride to the show is done as part of the John “Wah” Oleski Christmas for Kids Ride that takes place annually.
The motorcycles, as well as the vehicles that registered, were also able to display their ride and vie for a trophy. Southern Tier Harley Davidson set up a display, and had a few of their newer models at the show.
In the true gift giving spirit, a “Spirit Contest” for the best holiday themed car and bike was to be awarded.
As in past years, Rhonda’s Rockabilly Pinup Girls were strolling through the event, offering a photo opportunity for participating guests.
Greg Zyla, syndicated columnist that authors Car Collector and Test Drive columns, was also on-hand, representing Auto Round-Up Publications and Lucas Oil.
At a tent set up by Zyla, he gave away over $200 in Lucas Oil special prizes throughout the day including detail kits, Lucas Hot Rod Oil, and other Lucas items.
Through a free drawing, several guests won Auto Round-Up bags, can coolers, and ten brand new t-shirts that Zyla had collected over the years.
“We had a great day at our Auto Round-Up Publications and Lucas Oil display and tent,” said Zyla, adding, “It was a huge turnout at the car show.”
Throughout the venue there were vendors with matchbox car collections, a variety of jewelry and leather items, and even a vendor selling LuLaRoe clothing. The Project Z Band performed for guests throughout the day.
