Readers’ Column for the week of Sept. 10, 2017

You may call the Owego Pennysaver Readers’ Column at (607) 687-2378 24-hours a day, or e-mail comments to readerscolumn@stny.rr.com. We reserve the right to revise or reject any message.

I’m calling about the monument service that was put up at the end of Airways Road, it says Easy Street and it’s a really nice display of a rock wall and a road sign. It looks really nice and upscale. I really appreciate it. Thanks for making the area look good!

I’m calling about the Apalachin Elementary School. Right now it needs some work done on it. The playground is in terrible shape. Here it is a week left with the school starting, some of the items on the swings and the swing sets parts are coming apart, they’re disfigured and stuff, they need mulch around it, they need trees and shrubs trimmed. It’s like nothing gets done around there anymore. What’s going on with the school district? Is this going to be the last year for the elementary school or did they put all the money in the new Owego School? I’d like to know because it seems like Apalachin Elementary School is not being taken care of. I’d like to hear other people’s comments on this.

I would like to personally thank the crew that paved Davis Hill Road in Owego. They did a fantastic job! I also want to thank them for the work they do for us all year long, the snow removal and everything else that they do, when they pick up the brush, everything they do for us! It is much appreciated. Davis Hill is a pleasure to drive on. Thank you!

I was just reading in the column about someone complaining about neighbors using fabric softener sheets. Well, welcome to my neighborhood! You go outside and sit down and all you smell is cat pee, dog pee, angry neighbors, and fighting and screaming kids. You choose! By the way, ask your neighbor to use unscented fabric sheets.

~

I would like to say a great big thank you to TCRM. You are wonderful and praise the Lord!

When does it end? Ads asking me to buy school supplies, contribute to feeding children throughout the summer, paying for their health insurance. Where are mom and dad in all this? My parents supplied all the necessities of life to not only me, but also my four siblings. Why are people having children they cannot afford and coming after the public to pay for their necessities? Next they’ll be asking you to transport them to and from the sports activities. Where and when does this all end?

This is about shopping carts and this is to all the people that take carts from the stores and do not bother to return them. Do you realize that when you don’t return them to the store it’s stealing and you cost the store money for each cart you don’t take back? A small cart costs the store $100 and the larger cart costs the store anywhere from $200 to $250. Please think about this the next time you go shopping and push a cart home.

I’m looking for an old sewing machine without the machine inside, only need to use as a table. A treadle type would be nice with small drawers on one side would be ideal. Call 659-3871, can’t afford a lot but would treasure it.

~

Are there any garden clubs or perhaps Master Gardener Clubs who would be interested in cleaning up the gardens at Riverview? If so, call 687-1100.

~

To the person who called in last week’s Pennysaver with such a negative view of New York State, please try taking a drive along Route 10 between Deposit and Delhi in the autumn. It’s absolutely gorgeous! If that doesn’t change your mind there’s the door.

Oil and gas companies donating to the Hurricane Harvey rescue effort are like soda companies donating to obesity clinics or tobacco companies donating to the American Lung Association. Let’s not lose sight of focusing on the root of the problem and solving it.

National Political Viewpoints

Wow! For only $3,000 you can get your picture taken with, guess who? Hillary Clinton on her book signing tour. Maybe the Canadians can be convinced to keep her there. I am sure many national socialist democrats are jumping at that wonderful opportunity to shake hands her. Since the Clinton’s are worth many hundreds of millions of dollars, do you think Hillary will match President Trump’s personal $1 million contribution to help the Texas flood victims? That’s a fat chance!

~

Mr. Trump has pledged $1 million of his own personal money to the Harvey flood victims. What a generous and unselfish gesture; but where is the Clinton Foundation in this tragedy? I think I can answer my own question. The Clinton’s are out of touch with the American people and they are out of touch with reality. Trump in 2020!

~

Hillary has a new book coming out. The Clinton’s were popular in the 80’s. It’s time for the Clinton’s to retire. No one, including the Democrats, want to hear from them anymore.

~

Texas is considered a red state. One of the basic platforms of the Republican Party is smaller government. I’m curious, does this mean that the good folks of Houston will refuse taxpayer money related to Hurricane Harvey?

~

Go Hillary? Give me a break! Oh, please go away into greedy oblivion. Sure she wants to run again because of the head thump she took in 2016. If she can still get around in 2020, Trump will beat this big loser again but big time. Go Trump!

~

Donald Trump and Claudia Tenney are doing everything we, the people who voted them in, asked them to do. We are very happy with what they are doing for us, their constituents, the ones that voted them in. I don’t care what other publications say about the constituents, we the voter constituents, the ones who voted them in, are very pleased with their performance and their agenda.

~

I would just like to throw a question out there. How many Republicans would like to see some of the congress, some of the never Trumpers step down starting with John McCain, Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan, Jeff Flake, and I could go on and on and on. Do you feel our tax dollars are really at work with Paul Ryan and the congress? Also I would like to comment to the person who doubts Trump’s mental state. Where were you? I didn’t see any comments coming out from you when Donald Trump came out on national TV in front of millions of American people and refused to get a paycheck. You go Donald Trump. Uou’re doing a good job regardless of what some of these half minded people think. Good job!

~

I think it’s a great idea to end the DACA program. If these dreamer children go back to their country of origin and apply to get into the United States legally, that’s the way to go.

I wonder why the people that get upset with Soros supporting liberal causes don’t have a problem with the Koch brothers supporting conservative causes. Of course one then has to wonder why the people that get upset with the Koch brothers supporting conservative causes don’t have a problem with Soros supporting liberal causes.

President Trump’s “good job” so far: Obamacare repealed – nope; wall build progress – nope, no funding; swamp drained – nope; reduced flood protection requirements – yes; reduced number of people getting overtime pay – yes; eliminated a requirement to stop mine runoff from entering waterways – yes; proposed cutting funding for flood insurance – yes; said there were very fine people in the KKK, Nazi, and white supremacist groups in Charlottesville – yes; vacationed exclusively at Trump resorts, earning millions for his family – yes. Tell me again how he is achieving what he promised and making America great again.
