Climate Change is real!

Dear Editor,

In spite of what the present administration considers a hoax, I wish to draw attention to what must be considered the greatest threat to global survival. Climate Change is real.

We, globally, are experiencing and will continue to experience conditions of localized drought, severe heavy storms with flood waters and rising ocean levels. The drought conditions will continue to extend desert conditions and reduce agricultural productivity throughout the world. This leads to emigration, regional stress and governmental chaos.

Heavy rainstorms such as repeated 100-year floodwaters create havoc as many of our communities are located in flood plains. The damaging conditions are not easily protected by berms and evacuation plans.

The greatest threat however is a rising sea level. Much of our global population resides in coastal areas. Our military is fully aware of this threat. When major cities of millions of people have to move it is going to create a dilemma that we have not yet experienced. It is not going to be pretty.

The global temperatures are rising. The carbon dioxide and methane that we add to the atmosphere facilitate this warming. The glaciers are melting, coral reefs are dying with increased ocean acidification and our winters are getting shorter.

We must take action and encourage solar, wind and geothermal energy sources as well as reducing personal energy demands.

Sincerely,

Marty Borko
