Newark Valley Days to take place on August 11 and 12

Newark Valley Days, held throughout the village of Newark Valley, will take place this year on Aug. 11 and 12.

On Friday, you can catch the high energy of Dixieland Jazz when the Dixie Kats hit the scene at the Train Depot from 7 to 9 p.m.; doors open at 6 p.m. at the depot. Food and beverages will be available for purchases, and guests are asked to bring a lawn chair.

Prior to the performance by Dixie Cats, there will be an Art Show in the Rollie Noble Room, located next to the post office, from 4 to 7 p.m. This event is sponsored by Visions Federal Credit Union, and the prize-winning artwork will be announced at a reception that begins at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

On Saturday, things are going on all over the village. Check out the Chamber of Commerce craft sale on the Green. Crafters from all over the area will entice you with their wares from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. View amazing artwork by the many talented artists in the area at the art show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Village Hall.

The annual parade begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday, running along Main Street, Water Street and Whig Street.

New this year is all day activities at Trout Ponds. Starting at 10 a.m., guests will be treated to music all day along with food, vendors, and things to do for the kids.

Cheer for your favorite duck during the Rubber Duck Race at 4:30 p.m. It all leads up to an exciting fireworks display after dark with music by Watts on Tap.

While there, learn about the history of the area by visiting the Bement-Billings Farmstead living history museum on Saturday and Sunday, from noon to 4 p.m. The Farmstead is one mile north of the traffic light, and tours will be free during Newark Valley Days.
