The Battle of the Bands, scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, was met with some difficulties as power outages spread through Owego following a brief windstorm with rain. The fairgrounds lost power as well.
Bands scheduled to battle included Friends with Benny’s, Rare Breed, Drama Scream, and Scranton-based Threatpoint. But because of the current and pending storms, the Fair Board decided to cancel, but offered the bands an opportunity to get a small fee to play; the grandstand fees were waived as well.

Friends with Benny’s and Drama Scream decided to stay and perform at the fair anyhow, and both bands delivered about a 50-minute set each before the heavy rains arrived. The fair board was also able to get power back to the fair, and the portable stage’s generator was able to power the sound equipment.

Action returns to the fair on Saturday with continued 4-H activities, a Lumberjack Show, and then the finals set for the demolition derby at 7:30 p.m.
