The Tioga County Fair kicks off on Wednesday with harness racing, followed by a full schedule of activities and events. Throughout the week, guests will enjoy amusement rides, 4-H activities, shows by the Fearless Flores family, the popular demolition derby, and much more! There will also be a Battle of the Bands on Friday, so head on down to the fair and support your favorite band.

The Fair Board has been working hard to prepare the grounds for this year’s fair, and to coordinate all of the shows and activities. For a full schedule, you can visit www.tiogacofair.com, or check out the guide inserted in this week’s edition of the Owego Pennysaver Press.

There have also been some improvements made to the fairgrounds in preparation for this year’s Tioga County Fair.

In order to make the cattle barn and agricultural buildings more comfortable for fair goers and livestock, major ventilation changes have been made. In the agriculture building, thanks to a Fanny Hyde Foundation grant, six circulating fans and two vent fans have been installed. New lighting and a paint job also made the barns brighter inside.

Thanks to the Mildred Truman Faulkner Foundation, the cattle barn has two more large fans. These 16-foot fans really keep the air moving, according to Charley Truman, who has been working behind the scenes to prepare the grounds for the fair.

Roy Schreiner with the Sheriff’s office, and the Community Service Group also worked on a long list of grounds improvements including weed and grass removal, painting and building cleaning.

“They worked hard to spruce up the grounds,” said Truman.

The 15 Fair Board members have been coordinating activities within their respective departments, and are ready to kick things off on Wednesday.

In a letter from the Fair Board President, Jonathon Marks, he thanked the community and the event sponsors, stating, “On behalf of the Tioga County Fair Board in New York, I would like to thank all of the dedicated volunteers that contribute their time to the Tioga County Fair each year, and to the sponsors and local businesses that support this longstanding agricultural event.”

All are invited to head down to the fair and experience harness racing, the demolition derby, a Cash for Dash event, Kid’s Day, midway rides, games, and a variety of activities for all ages.

The Owego fire department will also be hosting a chicken barbecue each day from 4 to 8 p.m., and then on Saturday from 11 a.m. until gone. The proceeds will benefit the training facility for our fallen firefighters.

You can find this, among other food vendors that will be available at the fair. The 4-H food booth will also be open daily.

General admission to the fairgrounds will be $6, with an all-day unlimited ride pass available for $10. Midway and rides will be open Wednesday through Friday starting at 5 p.m., and Saturday starting at 3 p.m.

Grandstand admission will be $5 (unless otherwise noted); and children five and under get free admission to both the fair and the grandstand.

Be sure to follow them on Facebook, or visit www.tiogacofair.com for a complete schedule.
