Elderwood celebrating one-year anniversary since the opening of the Outpatient Rehabilitation Clinic

When the dust settled after a 2.5 million dollar investment project last summer, Elderwood at Waverly unveiled with it a new service to the community. The Outpatient Rehabilitation Clinic now prepares to celebrate its one year anniversary and is inviting former patients of the program, local partners, and the public to help mark the occasion.

“The landscape of healthcare in our community continues to rapidly change. As our nation ages, the need for an innovative health care model and community resources to assist in managing the growing complex medical conditions of patients is essential,” said Assistant Administrator, Stephanie Sinsabaugh.

She added, “Our Outpatient program was designed to provide more than basic strengthening offering all three disciplines of therapy: physical, occupational and speech. The community can call upon our therapists for innovative programs and technologies that complement the ongoing physician management of their conditions. Engagement in outpatient therapy decreases a person’s risk of entering or returning to the hospital by lessening disabilities that challenge a person’s long-term ability to remain living at home.”

Starting her career before administration in long term care as an occupational Therapist, Sinsabaugh reflects on the underutilization of patient referrals to Occupational Therapy in the outpatient setting despite its value.

She stated, “The profession becomes a centenarian this year turning 100 years old. Even despite its long history of functional treatment dating back to World War One, the common person lacks awareness of the diversity of services that the profession offers.”

On July 19, the Elderwood Outpatient Therapy Clinic, located at 37 No. Chemung St. in Waverly, N.Y., invites the public from 4 to 6:30 p.m. for an open house and celebration of its one-year anniversary.

Elderwood’s Medical Director, Dr. Joseph Mwesige, will provide remarks at approximately 5:30 p.m. where he will share his thoughts on “Redefining Senior Care”.

Guided tours of Elderwood’s continuum of care, complimentary refreshments, and hors d’oeuvre will be provided. The event is free and open to the public.

Guests are encouraged to register ahead of time by calling Elderwood at (607) 565-2861. For more information, visit www.elderwood.com
