Household Arts, Agricultural Products and Arts and Crafts welcome to enter and compete at this year's Tioga County Fair

The Tioga County Fair Board is pleased to announce a return to the happy past as all local residents are invited to enter their homemade Household Arts, Agricultural and Garden Produce and Arts and Crafts in “Open Classes” at this year’s Tioga County Fair.

“This year’s Fair is being held from Wednesday, Aug. 2 through Saturday, Aug. 5 at Marvin Park in Owego. According to the Fair Board President Jonathan Marks, “A large part of the reason for the change to a later date was to allow Agricultural and Garden produce to mature and be exhibited in their proper Classes at the Fair.”

The list of available classes is extensive, according to Department 10 Superintendent Cindy Lou Goodrich. Canned goods, cut flowers, flower arrangements, fresh vegetables and fresh fruit are old time favorites. Maple syrup, maple cream and sugar, honey and beeswax candles are included.

Foodies will appreciate the craft beverage classes including homemade wine, beer, mead and cider. Arts and Crafts features amateur paintings, graphics, sculptures and photographs.

Fabric and Sewing exhibits include garments and home accessories, knitting, crochet and tatting. Quilting is always exciting to see, along with needlework of all kinds. The Decorative Arts are comprised of pottery, ceramics and woodcrafts.

As is usual New York State County Fair practice, a modest cash premium is awarded to most entries. Ribbons are awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Places.

All entries must be made by Friday, July 30. Go to the Tioga County Fair website at www.tiogacofair.com and click on Entry Forms in the header, and next on Premium Book to learn all of the details. You may also call Cindy Lou Goodrich at (607) 687-1719 or email her at cgoodrich4@verizon.net for more information.

Public participation is the hallmark of any successful County Fair. It has been some time since any real emphasis had been placed on showcasing our local talent as growers and artists in Tioga County. This is your chance to partner with the Fair and enjoy the work of your neighbors and friends.  Please consider entering your garden produce, hobby productions or fine art works.
