Benefit concert with ’38 Special’ canceled due to weather; Tioga Downs is looking to reschedule

A benefit concert featuring 38 Special on Saturday at Tioga Downs Casino was canceled, at the last minute, due to storms that arrived in the area. The show benefits the Southern Tier Veterans Support Group, with 100 percent of ticket sales benefiting the organization.

In addition, Tioga Downs’ Owner, Jeff Gural, matches the ticket proceeds for an additional donation to support the group and area veterans.

Now, with the show canceled on Saturday, Tioga Downs is stating they will try to reschedule another performance, and should know by July 12 if they are able to secure a date.

Gural, in a statement received on Sunday, stated, “The goal last night was to provide our customers a fun evening with a live performance by 38 Special at an affordable price, and to try and raise $100,000 for the Southern Tier Veterans Support Group. They use that money to help approximately 500 veterans here in the region get back on their feet.”

Gural added, “Keeping that goal in mind, we would prefer to reschedule the concert rather than refund the ticket price or ask ticket holders to donate the $15 to the vets. We should know by July 12 if they are available to return. If they are, then all ticket holders will receive a new ticket for the rescheduled event and if they are not available, ticket holders will have the option of donating the money to the vets or receiving a refund.”

Tioga Downs also noted that the weather forced the cancellation, and was required for safety reasons. To learn more about entertainment at Tioga Downs, visit www.tiogadowns.com
