Literacy Volunteers announces summer computer instruction schedule

The Tioga Adult Learning Lab, (T.A.L.L.) is accepting registration for classes in basic computer instruction for July and August 2017. T.A.L.L. serves adult students throughout the Southern Tier, and is sponsored by Literacy Volunteers of Broome-Tioga Counties, Inc., in partnership with Tioga County.  

T.A.L.L.’s program staff provides basic computer application instruction. High speed Internet Broadband service is also available. There are no fees for any of the workshops or services T.A.L.L. provides.

During July and August, the following classes are offered at Owego Free Academy, Room 287, in Owego, N.Y.

“E-mail Basics” will be offered on Thursday, July 6 or Thursday, Aug. 3 (choose one session) from 9 to 11 a.m.

“Basics of Microsoft Windows and Word” will meet July 11, 12 and 13, from 9 a.m. to noon. (must attend all sessions). 

“Basics of Microsoft® Excel” will meet July 18, 19 and 20, from 9 a.m. to noon. 

“Applying for Jobs Online” will meet on Tuesday, July 25 or Wednesday, Aug. 2 (choose one session) from 9 to 11:30 a.m. 

“Basics of Microsoft® PowerPoint” will meet on Wednesday, July 26 and Thursday, July 27 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. 

“Resume Workshop” will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 1 from 9 a.m. to noon. 

“Basics of Microsoft® Publisher” will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 8 from 9 to 11 a.m. 

“Social Media Basics – Using Facebook” will meet on Wednesday Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to noon. 

Classes are held at the Owego Free Academy, and students must be pre-registered to attend classes and can do so by calling the Literacy Volunteers office at (607) 778-6406. 

Open lab sessions, where adults can use computers, software and Broadband Internet to work independently or with the instructor, will be held on the following Monday mornings at the Tioga Employment Center (TEC), 1062 Rt. 38, Owego, N.Y. – July 10, 17, 24 and 31, and Aug. 7, 14, 21 and 28.  Reservations are not required during open lab sessions. The instructor will be available at TEC from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on these days.
