At Monday night’s board meeting in Owego, Jeff VanWagenen, from SUEZ, announced that they will be done with their portion of the Lake Street project by this afternoon or Thursday, weather dependent. The completion of their portion is three weeks ahead of schedule, according to VanWagenen.

Now, NYSEG will come in and perform their portion of the project, which is anticipated to take approximately two months to complete. VanWagenen noted that NYSEG has been notified that they should be prepared to come in and do the work on June 26.

As for the fencing in place and Owego’s Strawberry Festival on June 16 and 17, VanWagenen explained to the board that a 10-foot walkway in the center of the fencing will be put in place so that guests can cross over from one side of the street to the other, and at no additional cost to the project. This temporary walkway will be near Susquehanna Printers and the Lake Street music stage.

The Strawberry Festival committee was excited to hear about the news of the walkway, and extends a thanks to SUEZ for making concessions that will in turn be beneficial to the downtown merchants during the festival.
