On Saturday, June 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., the Basin Street Jazz Band will entertain Strawberry Festival guests at Ahwaga Park, located on Front Street in Owego and across from the Elk’s Lodge.

Although the Band members have personally attended the Owego Strawberry Festival many times, this will be Basin Street Jazz Band’s Strawberry Festival debut. They are not new to Owego, however, and recently entertained during Owego’s First Friday Art Walk.

The band loves to entertain the crowd, capturing the essence of American Jazz from its early roots to the Roaring 20s. Adding New Orleans Jazz showcases the group’s diverse musical expertise with their signature, interactive performances highlighting the likes of Louis Armstrong, Scott Joplin, Preservation Hall, Rebirth Brass Band, Dr. John and Trombone Shorty, and combines a blend of Cajun, Zydeco and more.
Basin Street Jazz Band features experienced jazz musicians, music educators and performers, and is led by trombonist Dennis Martin who plays in the style of jazz artist Jack Teagarden and with modern influences of New Orleans’ Trombone Shorty.

Their performances include strong improvisation, vocals, solo and ensemble.  The band’s musicians play three horn instruments (trombone, trumpet, clarinet and saxophone) and three to four rhythm instruments (acoustic piano or electric keyboard and drums, bass guitar, harmonica, washboard and lead guitar).
