The 1984 Tony Award winning musical comedy, La Cage Aux Folles, will be presented for the first time to Southern Tier theatre going audiences by Ti-Ahwaga Players in Owego, N.Y. at the Ti-Ahwaga Community Playhouse located at 42 Delphine St.
A glamorous, glitzy and fun-filled romp of a musical takes you into a St. Tropez nightclub and into a life where the outrageous is commonplace and high, very high, high jinxes abound through every eye catching moment and most tuneful of musical scores. These superlatives serve only to heighten the interaction of a “modern family” that uphold today’s relevancy of family, love, acceptance and being true to oneself.
With a book by Harvey Fierstein and music by Jerry Herman, the musical has remained timeless having won additional Tony Awards for Best Revival of a musical in both 2005 and 2010.
Directing the production is veteran Ti-Ahwaga stage director James Osborne. Leading a cast of 20 performers are Michael Cyr as the nightclub’s star Albin / Zaza, proprietor of the club; Greg Fusare as Georges; Tony DeLousia and Francesca Decker as the two lovers; Jean Michel and Anne; Reidan Pitarresi as the outrageous Butler / Maid; Jacob, Brian Luby and Laurie Brearley as Senator; and Mme. Dindon and Christine Ryder as the fun filled and effervescent friend, Jacqueline.
A rollicking chorus line of nightclub dancers that are as colorful and entertaining as they are bawdy and bizarre backs up the cast. Musical Director is Colin DeLap and Choreographer, Talia Saraceno.
“The sets, costuming and lighting for the show are way out of sight and probably the most audacious piece of theatre that Ti-Ahwaga Players has attempted in its over 50 years of theatrical presentations to audiences. La Cage Aux Folles is a spectacle on wheels and an icon of Broadway musicals,” states Osborne.
Performances for La Cage are scheduled for June 2 – June 4, June 9 – June 11, and June 16 – June 18. Friday and Saturday evening performances are at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m.
Tickets for the show can be obtained by calling the theatre at (607) 687-2130 or by reserving online at www.tiahwaga.com.
