Spending is out of control

Dear Editor,

The Spencer Van Etten school district sent out a budget letter, which does not even meet the minimum requirements for information prescribed by law. For example, the superintendent’s salary and benefits were not in it. What are they hiding?

One wonders how the spending is so out of control. Is there no one on the school board who can give some adult supervision to the school bureaucrats who determine the spending?

The spending per student is up 61.5 percent over ten years and is now just under $25,000. There is no relation at all between spending and need because the inflation over the same period was only 17 percent.

The spending is up almost four times the inflation rate. The district is, of course, ruthless in evicting elderly people from their homes if they cannot afford to pay their taxes.

Think about that when you vote on May 16.

Sincerely,

Rainer Langstedt

Spencer, N.Y.
