Owego students to participate in Spring Concert

On Sunday, May 14 at 3 p.m., the Binghamton Youth Symphony Orchestra (BYSO) ends its 56th season with a Spring Concert. The concert will take place at Binghamton High School’s Helen Foley Theater.

Represented are students from more than 20 school districts including several musicians from Owego Apalachin School District.

Participating from Owego Free Academy are Abigail Dove, Jordan Dove, Andrew Caldwell, Nick Corey, Hannah Foster, Skylar Pierce, Allison Shoen and Megan Shoen. Participating from the Owego Apalachin Middle School are Jacob Dove and Emmalyn Saddlemire.

Under the direction of Conductor Barry G. Peters and Associate Conductor Elizabeth Bartlett, musicians will perform a varied program that includes Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Overture, Brahms’ Tragic Overture, Vivaldi’s Recorder Concerto in C Minor, with recorder soloist Teresa Deskur, Ernest Bloch’s Poem for Flute and Orchestra, with flute soloist Nicole Peters, the Aladdin Suite by Carl Nielsen, and Slava! by Leonard Bernstein.

Tickets will be available at the door for a cost of $4 for students and seniors, $6 for adults, and a $20 family price. 

The Binghamton Youth Symphony is one of the oldest youth orchestras in the United States, organized in 1961 to enrich the musical education of elementary, middle, and high school students in the Southern Tier of New York and Northern Tier of Pennsylvania.
