Students from Zion Lutheran School watch Master Gardener Kevin Millar dig a hole for the tree the children were planting for Arbor Day.

On Wednesday, April 26, Master Gardeners Jenny Ceccherelli and Kevin Millar came to Zion Lutheran School to help celebrate Arbor Day.

The school’s Parent Teacher League purchased concolor fir saplings for the students from the Tioga County Soil and Water Conservation Department. The children had the opportunity to plant a sapling on school grounds with their special guests.

Many of the school families were happy to have the opportunity to take more than one sapling to make up for any who were unable to plant at their homes. In total, Zion Lutheran School families were able to plant 100 trees throughout Tioga County to celebrate Arbor Day.

Zion Lutheran School has an open enrollment policy for children of all denominations, races, color and ethnic origins. Limited scholarship funds are available for families in financial need.

Zion serves the children of five local school districts including Owego- Apalachin, Candor, Newark Valley, Union Endicott, Tioga Center, and parts of Vestal. Bussing is available for students from these districts.
