Congratulations to Owego Free Academy 12th grade students Megan Shoen and Decker Ayers for being honored at the April 30 Owego Elks Lodge 2017 Youth Recognition Dinner in front of their families and friends.

Megan and Decker attended the Owego Points of Light Youth Leadership Institute (PYLI) conducted by national PYLI trainer Bob Bassett at the Owego Elks Lodge during the 2011 spring break.

After the PYLI training, Megan and Decker took up the cause of combating childhood cancer and for the past five years have raised more than $4,000 for the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.

Joining in support of the youth recognition were Jean Caporal, Charles H. Bassett Youth Foundation (CHBYF) board member; Bob Bassett, CHBYF president; and Callie Patsellis, also a 2011 Owego PYLI classmate and graduate, recent Binghamton University graduate and new community service staff member at A New Hope Center in Owego.
