TCHS fundraiser to present ‘First Ladies’

The Tioga County Historical Society (TCHS) will host a fundraiser on Friday, May 12, at 7 p.m. with the presentation of “First Ladies.” This play has been performed at museums, historical societies, adult communities and small theatres throughout the region.

Judith Present’s play, “First Ladies,” gives Presidential wives a chance to tell their story. From first ladies of lore like Dolley Madison and Mary Todd Lincoln to their more recent counterparts like Mamie Eisenhower, Lady Bird Johnson and Nancy Reagan, the first ladies were just as interesting and inspiring (if not more) as their husbands.

Accompanied by music and costumes of their period, this play gives an honest assessment of who these ladies were, letting the audience into their true feelings and secrets, and how they affected their husband’s presidency.

The play features Dawn Gould, Maryann Johnson, Deb Fisher, Bonnie Deforest and Lisa Dutcher.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for members, and can be purchased by calling the TCHS at (607) 687-2460.

The Tioga History Museum is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located at 110 Front St. in Owego.

For more information, call (607) 687-2460 or email museum@tiogahisory.org. You can also visit www.tiogahistory.org or “Like” the museum on Facebook for more information on TCHS and their events.
