According to Nicholas Ruiz, Village of Owego trustee, the board received a start date at their Monday night board meeting of May 15 for the Lake Street project. According to Ruiz, the contractors have set the date, and they are still on target to finish their portion of the project some time in July. Then, NYSEG will begin their work.

As previously reported, the work is scheduled to take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, with one lane open during the weekend and at night for traffic. For the Strawberry Festival, on June 16 and 17, the sidewalks will be open and the streets will be roped off.

The Lake Street project in Owego, which will replace aging water lines, will begin on the scheduled date of May 15. Then, NYSEG will come in and perform work. The scheduled completion date for the entire project is Sept. 30, 2017.

As for parking, merchants from the downtown district are continuing talks on how to maximum the parking spaces that will be available throughout the project, and allow these spaces for use by shoppers arriving in Owego.
