The Owego Hose Teams, Inc. in partnership with the Marine Corps League, is raffling off a used car courtesy of Greg’s Auto Sales of Owego, N.Y. and other items valued at $100 or more in conjunction with their inaugural golf tournament being held on June 3 at the Tioga Country Club.

A 2007 Pontiac G6, four door automatic with sunroof and 97,000 miles is the top prize this year.  The car is valued at $5,675.

Tickets are available at Greg’s Auto Sales on 17C where the car is located, Weaver Automotive, and the Community Shop on North Avenue or Early Owego Antique Center on Lake Street.  Tickets can also be purchased through tournament organizers.

Other raffle items include two tickets to a Washington Redskins home game with accommodations, a Weber Grill, Stihl equipment, and several other prizes. Only 500 tickets will be sold and winners will be announced at the golf tournament. You do not need to be present to win.

Proceeds from the raffle will benefit a scholarship in memory of Louie Kies and Chris Franz, and the restoration of the Baker Fireman’s Fountain in the Village of Owego’s courthouse square.  Teams and sponsors for the inaugural Owego Hose Teams Memorial Golf Tournament are encouraged to register through the team’s website at www.OwegoHoseTeams.com under the golf tournament tab. Paper registrations will still be accepted and are also available online.

There is a 60-team limit with both morning and afternoon flights available on a first come basis.  The tournament is expected to be at capacity.

Owner of Greg’s Auto Sales, Greg Kies said he was more that excited to furnish the car in memory of his father Louie and cousin Chris, who both passed away this year.

“My dad and Chris were very community oriented. The scholarship in their names and work on the fireman’s fountain fit that spirit perfectly,” said Kies.

Louie Kies was instrumental in developing the Owego Little League Baseball, Owego Teener League Baseball and the creation of Hyde Park Owego Little League Field. He was the Past President of the Owego Little League and Teener League Baseball and Past Commander of VFW Post #1371 and a life member of Croton Hose Co. #3.

Chris Franz, a 22 year member of Croton Hose Co. #3 and the hose teams, worked at St. Patrick’s, was a leader of Boy Scout Troop 37; a member of the Owego Fire Police and the VFW Post #1371 Auxiliary.
