OFA students participate at festival

Last weekend, Owego Free Academy’s vocal students participated in a Solo and Ensemble Festival at Johnson City High School. For the festival, 25.7 percent of the high school choral program participated, or 26 students.

Sixteen students performed NYSSMA solos – all students received a rating of 97-100 on Level V or VI; 26-28 on a Level IV. Eight students performed All-State Solos – all students received a rating of 97-100, the highest rating (two students received the perfect score of 100 – they are Nic Hulbert and Camden Dyer-DeCator).

Eighteen students performed a duet (some did both solos and duets and some only performed the duet) – all scores were in the range of 26-28 out of 28 points, a rating of Outstanding. There were three perfect scores on duets.

“These students spent approximately three months preparing their solo and working on sight reading,” said Megan Burrell, Owego-Apalachin choral director.

She added, “I am proud of their hard work and appreciate the administrative support of our music program.”
