Do you have a family member or friend with developmental disabilities who may benefit from a summer camp experience? Lions Camp Badger offers exciting two week long recreational programs for individuals age 13 to 35-plus during the month of July.
Located in Spencer N.Y., campers enjoy a variety of recreational activities such as swimming, crafts, cookouts, special events, fishing, boating, karaoke, and so much more. Campers also work on life, vocational and social skills, all in a fun and supportive environment.
Lions Camp Badger is staffed by energetic, caring people who are committed to providing the best experience possible for campers. Many are college students and educators who have a passion and experience for working with individuals who have special needs. Since the camp is small, they have the opportunity to truly get to know each person and provide programming that is tailored to their strengths and abilities.
The programming at Lions Camp Badger fills an enormous need in our area and even nationwide. Many individuals with autism, intellectual disabilities, or similar challenges find a gap in the availability of services once they graduate from high school. Finding employment, social activities, or even volunteer work is tough for people who need ongoing support in order to be successful.
Lions Camp Badger seeks to fill this need by offering this “summer vacation” experience through residential camp.
Equally important is the need for available respite services for families and caregivers. If you are a caregiver for a person with special needs, keep in mind that summer camp may offer you an opportunity for a vacation as well.
