Born to Farm: Exhibit opening at Tioga History Museum

Born to Farm: Exhibit opening at Tioga History Museum

The Tioga History Museum (THM) announced its upcoming exhibition, Born to Farm, which will open on Saturday, April 1 and run through Sept. 30. Born to Farm consists of two fascinating exhibitions based on the farming experience in Tioga County.

The first exhibit, Farming: The Original Family Business, will feature artifacts, images, and video connecting visitors to Tioga County’s rich farming and agricultural history. Learn about the harvest production on small family farms throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, family roles on the farm, and the ongoing struggles of these local family-run operations.

The second exhibit, Women: The Invisible Farmers, showcases the history of women on the farm. Women played an important role on the farm, which is largely overshadowed. This exhibit will expose the hard work that women put forth on the farm – from cooking, cleaning, raising children and gardening, to helping manage the farm.

Refreshments will be provided. All are welcome to view these wonderful new exhibits.

The THM is located at 110 Front St. in downtown Owego. The cost is $3 for adults, $2 for seniors 62 and older, and children and members are free.

The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
