People stand a better chance of being shot accidentally by a ‘safe and law abiding’ citizen then they do by criminals or terrorists.

I am sure that it would be extremely difficult for anyone who loses a loved one to include it in the obituary but if they did include it, there would be much more awareness to what a horrible disease this is and maybe more would be done to assist and prevent it.

~

Thank you to all the neighbors on lower Woodlawn Avenue for their offers to shovel our driveway. It is a wonderful blessing to know that we are in such a nice and thoughtful neighborhood.

A Nor’easter is about the wind direction, not the storm path.

I just received my bill from New York State for my auto registration for two more years using my older plates. I really do not have to register until May 17, but I guess the state wants me to pay now as they are short of funds. Sneaky! The bill is $65 for registering my auto and $20 for using it. I wonder what it would cost if I do not use it? Exactly! So let our great state tell it like it is and make the cost $84 and keep one set of books instead of two. They also included an envelope to mail my money to Albany and screw Tioga County out of about $16 income. Another sneaky tactic as they do not mention it in the mailing. I hope that our new SENATOR AKSHAR can fix this.

I think that Mayor David should try to talk Mr. Stenger out of the Federal and State money for the ill-advised sidewalk from Binghamton to the University campus. It sure seems like our tax dollars could be delivered more diligently to the crucial areas.

Girl Scout Troop #40925 would like to thank everyone who stopped to purchase cookies at our booth by Rite Aid last Saturday. Thanks to your generous support, we sold out our entire stock!

~

On March 17 I took two bottles of vitamin pills from the shelves of Rite Aid and brought them to the counter pay for them. I had no idea how much they would cost but it was much more than I expected and more than I was prepared for. Without any hesitation a woman plunked down a $20 dollar bill to help me. I don’t know who she was and before I had a chance to thank her she was gone. Whoever you are, you made my day. Thank you.

I am looking for an apartment, one bedroom, downstairs that will possibly accept a dog. Please call me at 759-2749.

On March 13, at approximately 3 or 4 p.m. on Route 38, a man in a white pickup with a plow stopped and asked my nephew, who was shoveling my driveway, if he would like someone to plow my driveway. At the time he said that someone was supposed to be coming, well they didn’t come and if you see this would you please call in and leave your number because I’m very interested in having someone that I can depend on every time it snows for years to come. So thank you very much and I hope you see this.

There is a cow and a half grown steer in a pasture on Fairfield Road in Candor. They have no shelter and are rarely given hay or water. This is animal cruelty. If anyone else is aware of this situation please call the SPCA as I have done, or if you are aware of other animals that are affected please do the same.

Congratulations to Jeff Soules and the whole Owego Village Highway Department. They did a great job with the manpower they had, with what they have been left with, six people or whatever. They did a great job on taking care of the storm and I see they are removing the snow on Lake Street. Congratulations, you guys work hard, did a great job and well deserved.

~

My thoughts and prayers are with Mike and Charlie and the crew at Northeast ATV where I have purchased many pieces of equipment. The services I have received have always been excellent. It my sincere hope that they will rebuild and be up and running before summer comes.

~

I noticed this week in the police listing that the Owego Police revived three overdosed people who were unconscious. All I want to say is why do you want to get rid of the Owego Police? They seem to be very beneficial in saving lives in our community.

~

It’s like something from outer space hit downtown Owego on North Avenue between Friday and Sunday. The streets are bare, it’s like the middle of the summer! It is wonderful! The patrons and the business owners should be so grateful. Whoever did it, it’s just like it’s gone! I was down there on Friday and the snow was 3 or 4 feet deep along the edge of the sidewalk, today nothing! It’s beautiful! Whoever’s responsible, thank you!

~

For all of the tree hugging buffoons out there, just imagine how bad this snow storm would have been without global warming! Oh, sorry, I’m sure you know it was due to global warming just listen to one of your elite environmental leaders and experts like DiCaprio, who flew his one and only eye makeup expert from Australia for his appearance on some Hollywood non-function last week. I wonder how much that cost. Wow, I guess the weather is still changing.

~

I pay taxes in two towns because town lines go through my farm. I want to offer my congratulations to the Tioga and Barton Highway Departments for a job well done keeping the roads plowed and sanded during last week’s record snowstorm.

~

I am very glad to see that the sheriff’s department is stopping people coming through Willseyville and up to Coddington Road, especially on Coddington Road where people go very fast and there are kids in Willseyville and on the Coddington Road. Thank you to the law enforcement.

National Political Viewpoints

It is official? Can we say it aloud now? We have elected our drunken uncle to be president. The one that mom said not to sit to close to or engage in conversation with at family holiday functions. All hail President Drunkle!

~

Interesting, we get blindsided by Nobamacare, which was shoved through Congress and into law by using every contrived loophole and underhanded method available. President Trump’s plan, which is no doubt an improvement over the other piece of nonsense, gets shot down by the Libs big time, no matter if it’s an improvement. It’s just not Nobamacare. Has anyone noticed that Hillary is in hiding? Perhaps she remembers that President Trump stated he’d put her in jail, were he President.

Mick Mulvaney, Trump’s director of the Office of Management and Budget, said we couldn’t afford to pay for Meals on Wheels or before and after school meal programs. He said we couldn’t afford to continue to support head start programs, help the working poor with Medicaid or fund Medicare insurance for seniors. We can’t afford to keep the Affordable Care Act or disability Social Security. After all who needs insurance anyway, he says Social Security is an entitlement that the Government can no longer afford even though we paid into it with our hard earned dollars all of our lives. We can’t afford to support the Corporation of Public Broadcasting, good-bye Big Bird, or the endowment for the Arts. We can’t afford to get the lead out of Flint Michigan’s water. We can’t afford to fund the EPA, because after all who cares about clean air and water. We can’t afford to have a decent public education system so let’s privatize it so only the rich are educated. To the poor and middle class – you’re on your own. What Mulvaney says we can afford is Trump’s 3 million dollars per trip to Mar-a-Lago every weekend and millions of dollars to maintain Melania and son Barron at Trump’s Ivory tower, we can afford to give 650 billion dollars in tax breaks to the top 1 percent, we can afford a 20 to 40 billion dollar wall with Mexico, and a 54 billion dollar increase in military spending. We can afford subsidies for big oil, big Pharma, and other big business in general. We can afford to deregulate Wall Street so they can once again rape a plunder the unsuspecting investor without penalty like they did in the 90’s so we can have a repeat of what happened in 2008. We can afford to gut the Consumer Protection Agency, because if you are too dumb to know better, tough luck you were warned. Coal mines can now dump mining waste in rivers to save money and aid big coals bottom line, we can relax clean air and fuel economy standards so big auto can have a better bottom line. I could go on and on, but you get the point. So, to all you who voted Republican and for Trump, I only have one question – are you happy?

Before people start measuring Islam by tossing out a few random verses from the Quran they should spend some time reading Leviticus. Or about what Joshua did at Jericho. Then study up on things like the Inquisition or how the Church dealt with heretics; or in our country in Salem.

~

Donald Trump told us he was for the common folk. His top two appointments were the CEOs of Goldman-Sachs and Exxon-Mobil. His budget slashes spending for education, health research, the environment, agriculture and Medicare. It cuts taxes for corporations and the very wealthy. So much for populism. By the way, he flies to Florida every weekend to play golf in the sunshine.

~

There is a lot of interest by the Democrats in Trump’s supposed collusion with the Russians. But Obama tried to get a FISA wiretapping order on Trump. Why no interest in why Obama wanted to snoop on Trump? Democratic hypocrites!

~

Interesting. There are several countries south of our border that have happily accepted gazillions of taxpayer dollars in foreign aid, yet when we catch a “bad guy” at the border or on our streets having committed a crime, and we want to deport the perp back to the country of origin, they refuse their citizens back! My question is why do we continue to send them taxpayer dollars to help them? Refuse to accept your country man who is being deported, say good-bye to dollars from taxpayers in the U.S.! Simple solution to a problem that need not exist!

~

Well, the FBI Director just made it official and lied again. That man cannot ever tell the truth; he lies every time he opens his mouth. This is an embarrassment to the country. We need to oust him!

~

Follow the real news. The Socialist Democrats are crybaby losers and enemies of the country. They might be stupid too, but Trumpcare will pass on either its first or second vote iteration. Just to score such will become a supreme. The big fight will come when Justice Ginsburg, who often falls asleep during judicial hearings, will exit the scene. Then the Republicans, thanks to the old Harry Reid ploy, will get to use the nuclear option, which, for the liberal readers, does not pertain to fission or fusion.

In regards to the new budget that Donald Trump is proposing and the cutting of the funding to public broadcasting systems. I enjoy WSKG as much as the rest of us I guess for their shows like nature, NOVA is really good but I have to agree that if they are accepting taxpayer money, and I didn’t realize that WSKG and public broadcasting gets $450 million a year, then they shouldn’t be allowed to have their liberally charged news shows. They’re totally anti 2nd amendment rights, total anti gun rights, and I extremely agree with the new administration and Donald Trump defunding WSKG and public broadcasting. If they want to just have the shows like nature and NOVA that’s fine, but I don’t believe taxpayers should fund their liberal views – especially when it comes to 2nd amendment rights. Secondly, I did see that Andrew Cuomo was in the area yesterday, never mentioning Tioga County specifically, never offered any help for Tioga County. We got more snow than Broome County and because we don’t have a city like Binghamton, all the resources are spent in Broome County and I didn’t hear a single word or a single cent paid or help given in Tioga County – so we’re all going to pay for that as New York taxpayers but I didn’t see any help from Cuomo’s office in Tioga County.

In response to a reader from last week, yes, Russia has been our ally in the past but never our friend.

~

Hey Trump voters, congratulations! The new Trump budget delivered to the White House cuts off Meals on Wheels and ends Medicaid, as we know it. In the future if you are going to need Medicaid services you are going to have to pay for it. You are going to have to be a responsible citizen again. No handouts for these loafers who get these entitlements like Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid. You can’t take care of yourself, maybe your family will take care of you. Who needs Meals on Wheels? Trump voters don’t need it. Thanks again folks.

~

I don’t know about everybody else but I am so sick and tired of this so called president and his one scandal and his one lie after another. He keeps saying he’s misspoken the facts. Why don’t they just come right out and say he is nothing but a pathetic liar and get it over with! Impeach him; get him out of there and save this country what we’ve got left. We’ve already been the laughing stock of the world and you know he’s crooked and he’s linked to the Russians. How can you people support him? You people need to wake up!

~

It’s no surprised Rachel Maddow’s ratings plummeted 36 percent immediately following her show where she released Mr. Trump’s taxes. The American people are not listening or following her. I wonder though if she can recover those lost ratings.

~

The Democrats love taxes. The more we have to pay the better. They’re certainly smiling now, look at the millions Mr. Trump had to pay in 2005! He paid more than Obama and Bernie Sanders.

~

I lost all confidence in the Demoratic Party. They don’t seem to realize Obamacare will implode under its own weight and when that happens I guess no one will have insurance; but I guess that’s what they want.
