To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage in New York State, Riverow Bookshop of Owego invites New Yorkers to submit a poem or essay regarding this historic time.
Some potential topic ideas might include the following: Personal story (share a personal experience); Role-play narrative (imagine what the struggle must have been like for an individual who fought for women’s rights); An inspiring female, living or deceased; Gender equality; How far we’ve come/How far we have to go.
Submissions need to be typed and must include name, address, phone number and e-mail address. Send or deliver to Riverow Bookshop, 187 Front St., Owego, N.Y. 13827; or e-mail to lasmoonshine@yahoo.com by midnight March 14, 2017.
Riverow Bookshop Gift Certificates will be awarded for First and Second place ($50 and $25, respectively) and Third place authors will receive an Embossed writing journal. Both the essay and poetry categories will receive awards. Additionally, five authors from each category will be selected for Honorable Mention, and all will be displayed at Riverow Bookshop.
Winners will be announced on March 21 and awards presented during a special ceremony at a later date.
