OPD officer visits ACHIEVE; offers talk on community safety

On Jan. 26, 2017, Owego Police Officer Tommy Woodburn gathered with 31 participants from ACHIEVE’s vocational work program in Owego, N.Y. to discuss community safety, with a focus on drugs, predators and bullying.

According to Jenny Kage-Ceccherelli, a volunteer for ACHIEVE who arranged the visit by officer Woodburn, felt that it was important for the participants of ACHIEVE to understand the situations they may encounter, and how to react if they do.

According to Penny French, the rehab support counselor for the vocational work program, this type of outreach from the community that helps educate their participants is very useful, and is always welcomed.

Kage-Ceccherelli stated that she often invites the fire departments as well, to talk to participants about fire safety. When they arrive, she added, the fire department usually brings a truck for the participants to see, and it has become a favorite for them.
