Readers’ Column for the week of Jan. 22, 2017

You may call the Owego Pennysaver Readers’ Column at (607) 687-2378 24-hours a day, or e-mail comments to readerscolumn@stny.rr.com. We reserve the right to revise or reject any message.

You may not support Michael Pence or Donald Trump, but let’s support the country – it’s time to come together.

Do you know what is so pathetic about republicans? For seven years all they did was bad mouth the ACA or as they like calling it, Obamacare. For six years they held close to 60 repeal votes. In all that time they never came up with a solution. They had seven years to develop a replacement, and to this day, they still have no idea how to do it. If they could not think of a better plan over the past seven years, why would anyone believe they could do it in one month? Remember those death panels? The death panels are really the republican leadership.

Putin’s Puppet is upset when people point out his presidency is illegitimate because of Russia’s influence, Comey’s breach in investigative protocol, and most importantly, voter suppression in many red states. He whines that “fake news” is not fair, even though he drove the fake birther movement to discredit Obama. You are naive if you think his election is anything but illegitimate.

~

To all Tioga Center School district taxpayers. Please pay close attention to the Capital project vote. Once again the district wants an increase in tax revenue to fund a bunch of non-sense, which provides zero academic merit. They should be ashamed of themselves for putting sports ahead of your child’s education. We work very hard to provide for our families and try to better ourselves daily; however, your child’s education and financial security is sacrificed. These repairs are absolutely not necessary and I would like a detailed list of bids placed to determine how the district came up with there total “needed”. It’s time to wake up and smell what you are shoveling.

The illegitimate president was Obama. Remember when he and Hillary lied about the cause of Benghazi being a video? They came up with that phony cover story so Obama wouldn’t look incompetent, and lose votes at a critical time. Congressman Lewis, it is Obama who stole the election, and who was the illegitimate president! Did you go to Obama’s inauguration? Hypocrite!

~

News flash! Neither Trump nor Russia wrote those emails. If the DNC didn’t collude with her, and actually let Bernie run, Trump would have lost, but the Queen’s Coronation was all important. Clinton lost, it’s time to move on.

Very good advice: “Donald Trump’s election was 40 years in the making, the ultimate fruit of an extraordinarily well-funded and comprehensive right-wing project to degrade the common good, deify the market, and attack the vulnerable and the different. Unfortunately, the progressive movement’s neglect of working people and rural communities has played right into that narrative. We can change that by understanding rural communities’ perspective on the environment, by recognizing the innovations coming out of those communities, and by grounding our messages in those experiences.” “3 Ways Progressives Can Reconnect With Rural America” — Anthony Flaccavento. I wish everyone would heed the advice my mother gave me years ago when I started school: “Remember you are just as good as anyone else, but not one bit better.”

~

Don-The-Con gets upset with Fake news about him. Does he think we forgot about his birther rants, repeating fake Breitbart news, Muslims celebrating in N.J., or Cruz’s father killing JFK? What a phony – so sad that we replace the integrity of Obama with this whining putz.

~

Is Jerry Sandusky out yet? There must be Trump cabinet post open somewhere that he can fill.

~

If Obamacare is repealed it will cost New York State $3.75 billion dollars in lost Medicaid money. What do you think that will do to your property taxes?

~

I called this in last week and it did not appear in your newspaper so here it is again. Do you Trump voters now see what you did to this country by voting for this clown? You believed everything he promised but I didn’t, and I don’t have to feel guilty if we go to war, lose Social Security and Medicare and so much more. Don’t you feel concerned that you elected someone who mocks disabled people, hires people who are billionaires? Yes, Trump will make America very, very sick again. So get ready.

~

Healthcare news. Don’t forget that the Republicans in congress who are cutting Medicare, Medicaid and other programs that are important to the lives of us constituents of these alleged representatives, have the very, very best healthcare the taxpayers can provide them. Isn’t that ironic? They have the best, you get the least, you get the worst, and they have the best. Oh yes, their budget cuts will improve the lives two percent of the wealthiest people in the nation. Aren’t they so generous!

~

I hope all you Trump supporters get ready to lose all your health insurance. You people are going to wake up and realize you’ve been sold an awful deal of goods. Good luck!

~

So glad Obamacare is on its way out the door. It was built on lies and did nothing but give free coverage to millions while leaving the hard working class to pay for it with unaffordable premiums and out of reach deductibles and co-pays. I say good riddance!

~

Hey the lies are catching up with dirty Donald the fondler. Thirty-seven percent approval rating now, he could be the lowest approval president in history if you want to call it approved.

Nichols gets $1 million from Tioga Downs, yet the same week the zoning board will not pass a digital sign board because it will be too distracting. Really? Yes, Tioga Downs will get the advertising but if there is an Amber Alert or other emergencies the sign will be able to alert traveler, maybe save a life. Tioga Downs has helped not only Nichols, but also Tioga County and beyond. Let’s support Tioga Downs and let these three or four zoning officials become aware of the good a sign of this nature can do. Thank you Tioga Downs for helping our area prosper!

~

I think people of Tioga County should demand to know the answer from the explosion that occurred on Dec. 31. The public has a right to know. The person who did this or persons should have to pay for all the lab work and investigators and not the taxpayers. The taxpayers should not have to pay for this. You know those people didn’t do that for nothing. We have a right to know and we should demand to get answers.

Rumor has it that Barnum and Bailey Circus is closing. Maybe they had so much competition from the ongoing political circus these past years they couldn’t afford to stay open! Our family has taken the pledge, the pledge of no more talking politics until near the next election, two years away. Instead we will pray for our country and our leaders for wisdom that they would carefully reflect on how their magnificent plans will really affect the average Joe and Jane and not just continue on their merry way making millionaires rich.

~

Governor Cuomo’s plan for free college tuition sounds wonderful but what about our brightest and best that have already graduated and are crippled by student loans? They can’t buy houses, they can’t afford marriage, they can’t afford health insurance, and many can’t even find jobs! Why not give them some of that wonderful free help before our whole generation is lost.

~

There was a number for a seamstress in the paper in December, I think. It is lost somewhere among the Christmas rush. May I please have it again?

~

Just because a news item is on the Internet or on twitter doesn’t mean it’s the Gospel truth.

~

Look at all the people that are getting killed in Chicago and all these cities. Look at the record number of cops being killed here and there. This cannot continue, bring back the death penalty.

~

I’d just like to let all you real proud Republicans know how Mr. Trump is going to treat us. He’s going to even challenge the constitution now! That’s a good one.

~

We, the people, are going to get tired of winning all the time with Donald Trump in the office. That’s all he knows, win, win, win! All we are used to the last eight years is losing. We never won anything with Barack Obama.

~

Regarding the explosion in Tioga Center, I live in South Owego and it shook my house. I don’t know why they would hush something like this up but it seems to me that we would be better off with true information rather than all the rumors that are sprouting.

~

After reading the Village of Owego Mayor’s letter in the Pennysaver last week, I’m beginning to think over the years we’ve given the assessor to the Town of Owego, we’ve given the vital statistics to the Town of Owego, we’ve given a big part of the fire district to the Town of Owego, so why are we now wanting to keep Owego Public Works and build a $3 million building for them? I can’t understand that! A $3 million building for the Village of Owego Public Works and four or five people who work in the clerk treasurer’s office, which is constantly under fire from the mayor. What about code enforcement? That was always in the police department. Why can’t that go? Why can’t we subcontract the cemetery and the street services? I’m completely confused by the way we are going here if we are truly trying to cut taxes. Let’s do it across the board, not just with the police department.

~

Follow Politics Party should be the new name for the Democratic Party. They are all in and only in it for power, their own power with no regard or concern for the average American people.

~

Truly, I really don’t care that certain people won’t be attending Mr. Trump’s inauguration. They need to stop flattering themselves. The American people do not care. The sour grapes still cannot come to grips with losing the election. They are nothing but sore losers showing their true character and they are the problem in American. Pure and simple, Mr. Trump had the better vision and message for the American people. Clinton had nothing and that is why she lost in a big way. Trump won 30 out of 50 states. I’ll certainly be at the inauguration via my TV and I cannot wait!

~

This week someone was complaining about the information and insults in this column. It’s better to print it in the paper; and honestly you are not doing any damage if you vent yourself and it makes you feel better and it makes people think. I think it’s perfectly harmless.
