United we stand divided we fall

Dear Editor,

I have seen 11 presidents come and go in this country. I have felt various emotions as they came and went, for the first time; with this president elect, I feel shame.

Shame that we have become a country with two political parties so influenced by a few wealthy elite that we are left with such choices. Shame that we are so foolish as to think that such parties will act in any other way than to benefit their BIG MONEY backers. Shame at the growing inequality this broken system has produced over the past 50 years. Shame at a corporate owned state. Shame that the power elites keep us so easily divided that we cannot come together to take care of the problem.

We don’t have a democrat vs. republican problem, or a black vs. white, or a citizen vs. alien, or a male vs. female, or a liberal vs. conservative or a country vs. city, or homo vs. hetero, or an X vs. Y problem. We have a “big – money” vs. the rest of us problem. They keep their control by dividing us along any possible line.

Things will not improve until we take care of this problem; it is foolish to think they will. History shows there are ways. United we stand divided we fall.

Sincerely,

Peter S. Long
