Readers’ Column for the week of Dec. 25, 2016

You may call the Owego Pennysaver Readers’ Column at (607) 687-2378 24-hours a day, or e-mail comments to readerscolumn@stny.rr.com. We reserve the right to revise or reject any message.

Rick Perry’s inability to remember that the Department of Energy was one of the departments he planned to eliminate as President and now having him nominated to lead that department has to be one of the strangest ironies in American political history.

Interesting, Michele Nobama whines we now have “no hope”. On the contrary, Mrs. Nobama, NOW we DO have hope. We have been eight too long years WITHOUT hope. There’s a new sheriff in town that intends to wipe the slate clean of the Marxist nonsense your husband tried forcing down our throats. The last mid-term election and this past General election showed what the American people think of Nobama’s “Hope”! The voters repudiated in its entirety the whole Liberal agenda – lock, stock and barrel in a landslide victory of Conservative principles. Now, we need to do the Servo Pro thing, “Like it never even happened” referring to the last too long eight years!

The Town of Nichols has a Deputy Supervisor Councilman position receiving an additional $4,000.00 per year plus the $6,000.00 per year annual. This is $10,000 annually for one of four Town of Nichols Councilman positions (all positions are limited part time); all others receive $6,000.00. The town Supervisor ($25,000 annually) needs to explain to the taxpayers why an assistant (Deputy Supervisor) is needed to carry out his Part Time Supervisor duties.

The patch job on Erie and West Main is pretty bad. Rides like a high school shop class took their first stab at roadwork. The village should demand it be reworked.

Looking for someone who reupholsters furniture and can repair broken legs. Please leave contact information in this column.

Russian puppet Republican Donald Trump kept warning us that the election was rigged. He certainly knew that his pal Putin would put him in the White House.

Holiday Cheer. For all of you feeling gloomy about the coming loss of your Medicare coverage, you should be cheered by the fact that our Congressional Representative Reed operates an overdue medical bill collection business. Happy New Year!

~

The stench of the Democrat sour grapes concerning the election results is apparent and overwhelming; 2017 will be a major shift in the path of this country. The people have spoken and we will now leave the Obama Socialist Marxist snail curve agenda and turn towards a self-motivated and energetic Capitalist path based on traditional values which will make us great once again. Our friends will be able to depend on our word and our enemies will fear us. Happy New Year and go Donald Trump!

Attention Owego Village landlords and business owners: Please take the time to contact Senator Fred Akshar in regards to the extremely high sewage fees. No one anywhere pays this amount for sewage! The phone number is (607) 773-8771 or email to akshar@nysenate.gov.

I got a message for the Town of Newark Valley Highway Department. We pay taxes too out in the country; it’s 10:30 Saturday morning and there hasn’t been a plow around. Come on people; if you don’t want to do the job hire someone who will.

Hillary and the loony left still think she is running for president. Get a life Hillary – it is totally over! Donald Trump becomes president on Jan. 20 and thank God he will wipe out the eight-year nobama mess. The Socialist Democrats should be shunned and ignored. They will never be Trump’s friends and will do everything to subvert draining the swamp of nobama’s folly. Trump should never make deals with the Socialist Democrats who will always promise cooperation and then stab him in the back. Go Trump!

There are good snowmobilers out there that respect people’s property, but this bunch has not been respecting property for quite a while. They ride on the dike here in Nichols; they come down, across the main roads and right through yards. They don’t care if they tear up your yard. It’s another winter of these inconsiderate ones that have been riding the dike, which is illegal. People in Nichols here don’t want to get flooded. If you live up on the hill you don’t have to worry about the danger, but us lower ones down here do. Have a little consideration; there are trails for bikes and snowmobiles, ride on them. Be considerate!

As a taxpayer, I appreciate all the benefits and services from the library. Books, videos, computers, programs for children and adults are all available. Whether someone chooses not to use them is there problem. The staff is helpful, and they are willing to assist with many services. The library brings people together and has many activities to support the community. My library is very important to me.

Michelle Obama is a joke when she says our country no longer has hope. Somebody needs to explain the meaning of the word hope to her. She and her husband have had nothing but the good life and neither of them can relate to what’s really happening to our hard working forgotten middle class. Maybe, had they come out of their elitist bubble, they would have connected with the American’s living in poverty, collecting food stamps, living paycheck to paycheck, being strangled by Obamacare and having nothing to show for it, not being able to save for a rainy day let alone a comfortable retirement. Michelle, you are wrong. We the people now have hope and a lot of it with you, Barack, and Hillary retiring. Enjoy your wealth of retirement; the rest of us will be playing catch up. You have to love Donald Trump and everything he stands for. He will fight for the American people, something we haven’t seen in over eight years.

~

I’m just wondering, why do I see you standing in line at the food bank when you have cash for cigarettes, lottery tickets and whiskey? Something doesn’t seem right.

~

Cheryl and Elizabeth, thank you for the Christmas package. Sorry I missed you. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Linda.

~

I’m hearing now Obama may go into television. I think he’d be a great comedian. I heard him bragging about how much better and stronger our country has become under his leadership over the last eight years. Wow, I can’t stop laughing.

~

It looks like the Town of Richford Highway Department has a snowplow driver driving all day long. Many days you don’t need plowing. You can plow and cinder on the same run. They are going up and down my road all day long. That means they’re doing the other roads also. No wonder the Town of Richford taxes are so high. Try cutting out one trip a day and see how much fuel and money you would save.

~

After eight long depressing years with Obama, I now have a president who is a doer and a fixer and it gives me tons of hope for the future. Go Donald Trump!

~

Hillary Clinton, strike one, you lost against Obama. Strike two, you lost against Donald Trump. Strike three, you lost the voting recount. Strike four, you lost at the electoral vote, and that’s the whole ball game!

~

I would like to give a thank you to Gail Tapia for all her help and time during the VFW Christmas party. You are greatly appreciated!

~

Congratulations to Donald Trump on his Electoral College victory! I voted for him and I couldn’t be happier!

~

Did you happen to read the piece in the Towanda Review? Donald Trump cannot borrow a penny from the United States. He has to borrow money from Russia and Germany. Can you even imagine that? I can’t imagine such a stupid problem a man would put himself in. He gets what he asks for.

~

In response to last week’s caller – I’m not frightened by Donald Trump at all. I was more frightened by a Hillary win continuing in Obama’s way of thinking. Also, I am very happy with Trump’s cabinet picks for the simple fact they have no experience! We’ve all seen where political experience has gotten us, nowhere. Time for the big changes Donald Trump will bring. He still draws those big crowds at his rallies. It just shows people are happy and full of hope and there’s consumer confidence growing again. Happy New Year; I can’t wait for Jan. 20.

Twenty-two terrorists in Germany over this past year. Not surprising that incoming refugees caused most of these attacks. Knowing this, would someone please explain to me why Obama is now flooding the United States with as many refugees as possible before his administration ends. There is no vetting being done. What a mess Obama is leaving Mr. Trump. Mr. Trump’s idea of safe zones and refugees’ homelands makes so much more sense. I can’t wait for Trump’s new ideas for our country to put America back on track. He will put Americans first and make America great again.

~

How was this that no current person in power sees that by bringing thousands of refugees to our country is not fixing the problems in the Middle East? This is not a Western World problem. Where was the Obama administration five years ago when everything started to arise over there? He was advised not to bring our troops out of Iraq too soon but he wouldn’t listen, so now we have this mess on our hands. Brining refugees here is not fixing the problem. We have to attack it on their soil. Hopefully Mr. Trump will do something.

~

It’s interesting to read all the wrong facts posted in this column. No, Obama is not a Marxist, it is Trump who is kissing up to Putin. No, 50,000 illegal people are not flooding across the border every day. No, the jets are not being built in India; American jobs are being kept in America by building in America and selling the jets to India. Then there’s the usual blind support fan mail for Trump who has time for all these huge rallies and over 35,000 tweets, but no time to attend the Intelligence briefings. It will be interesting to see what people will say in four years.

~

Merry Christmas Brenda from BJ, Snowball, and Angel and Me! And a Happy New Year!

~

Thank you to the SNAP personnel who at this very busy and expensive time of the year have expedited the extra paperwork for HEAP to help us better plan for the coming year. Thanks to the government’s years of little interest on our savings. HEAP is a valuable assistance to us.

To the individual who called in last week about the Holiday Magic Parade in Newark Valley and questioning if the Newark Valley High School band had been asked to participate in the parade. Yes, they had been asked and refused. They had also been asked to participate in the Newark Valley Day parade in the summer in the past but also have declined to participate in this parade as well.

  1. First off I did not vote for Trump!I doubt very much that he will be the great president that some people in the readers column say he will be.He is not diplomatic,he speaks his mind and that is not always a good thing, especially for the President. Putin has him wrapped around his little finger. He is not “draining the swamp”he is just replacing what he does not like and replacing it with his choices, how well it works remains to be seen.Personally I think he is going to crash and burn and blame the previous administration and everyone else for his failures.Should be interesting to watch.I wonder if all you staunch Trump supporters will still be so verbally supportive of this man after he fails America.

  2. I have honor and respect for the office of the President of the United States and what it has historically stood for. It is that respect and honor that prevents me from giving an ounce of it to Trump.
