Santa reads a story to children at an event in Nichols, N.Y. on Dec. 10, hosted by the RoKi Community Club of Nichols and American Legion Post 1624.

Eager children gathered on Dec. 10 at the American Legion Wright-Edsall Post 1624, located at 1 Dean St. in Nichols, N.Y., for Story Time with Santa.

Hosted by the RoKi Community Club of Nichols and American Legion, the event featured Santa reading Christmas stories to children. Each child received a coloring book with crayons, along with candy canes, and enjoyed cookies and cocoa and other holiday treats.

After the photo, Alex was curious and asked Santa, “Do you have a cell phone?”

Santa replied yes, however explained that he had his cell phone tucked away in his belongings outside. Santa seemed concentrated on the Story Time event, and although he offered no additional details, chances are he didn’t want to be burdened with cell phone messages from elves.

RoKi President, Tom Field, and RoKi member, Alicia Field, thought it was also an opportune time to promote the 2017 Nichols Old Home Days, and offered visitors a brochure to take home. Celebrated on Labor Day for over 100 years, the Nichols Old Home Day event, which includes a parade, activities, food, and live music and entertainment, drew hundreds at Kirby Park on Sept. 5.

Alicia Field commented, “We actually started planning for 2017 the day after this year’s event.”

Following the Story Time with Santa event, the RoKi Club planned to donate extra cookies to residents who live at the Nichols Schoolhouse Apartments, a housing complex for older adults.
