Preparing for the next Relay for Life event

The 20th annual American Cancer Society (ACS) Relay for Life (RFL) of Tioga County was held in July at the Owego Free Academy (OFA). The November thank you celebration announced that $38,768 was raised at this event for 2016. 

Thank you to all the sponsors, teams, participants, and financial donors who are helping to make a difference in support of those facing cancer. Thank you to the survivors and caregivers who attend and celebrate survivorship. Thank you to the committee members for your tireless yearlong efforts to plan a successful event. Thank you to Tiffany Bloss, our ACS partner, who stepped in at the last minute to guide the Tioga RFL even though she partnered with the Bath, N.Y. RFL on the same weekend.

Fay’s Fitness team has been participating annually since the beginning in 1997, and is grateful for all the support over the years. This year’s two member silver team raised $3,621. We are grateful to all our financial supporters and especially for our $100 track sign sponsors – the American Legion Candor Post #907, Bill and Donna Newman, Candor Market, Candor Snowmobile Club, Dan Lindsay Dozer and Backhoe Service, Doug Kirk’s Excavating, Fay’s Fitness, Garth Trucking and Towing, Hi-Way Dairy Bar, Home Central, The Owego Pharmacy, Pucky Huddle Delight, RB Robinson Contracting with HL Sand and Gravel, Sons of American Legion Party Tents in Candor, The Spencer Agency, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Candor, and Tioga State Bank.

The 2017 Tioga County Relay for Life, now in the planning stages, is scheduled for July 15, 2017 at OFA, from noon to 10 p.m. with a carnival circus theme. This is the first time it will not be an overnight event, but will include all the special things RFL is known for such as the opening ceremony, survivor celebration, teams walking the track, a luminary ceremony and, of course, fundraising.
