Readers’ Column for the week of Oct. 30, 2016

You may call the Owego Pennysaver Readers’ Column at (607) 687-2378 24-hours a day, or e-mail comments to readerscolumn@stny.rr.com. We reserve the right to revise or reject any message.

I live on Glenmary Drive behind the Grange. The speed limit is 25 miles per hour coming around the curve in front of our driveway. I cannot count the number of times coming out of our driveway, which is a blind driveway, that I was almost hit by cars that were speeding (45 to 50 miles per hour). Absolutely no one goes even close to the speed limit there. Please slow down before I or a neighbor is hurt, or worse. Wish the police could observe this dangerous curve where Glenmary and Goodrich meet.

This is in regards to the comment about Bingo. The Endicott Elks has Bingo every Monday night. The doors open at 4:30 p.m. We offer Bonanza for $300.00, two shares of wealth and many more games. We also have pull-tabs and 50-50. The kitchen is open and also serving delicious desserts. Bingo starts at 6:45 p.m. See you there. We will not be having it on Halloween. Thank you, from the Bingo committee.

I just received the Pennysaver and am so happy Chips was found! We just hoped for weeks and weeks that this kitty would be found! We love them all and I am so happy for Bob and Sandy. I just love that kind of story!

On Thursday evening, Oct. 20, my sister in-law and myself were at Texas Roadhouse in Vestal for dinner. When we asked the waitress for our check the waitress advised us that a Good Samaritan had paid for our dinner. We wanted to thank this person, but were advised this person had already gone; so please accept our thanks for it was very thoughtful of you.

I love this column, but some of the comments that are put in there are 150 to 200 or more words long. These should be letters to the editor. They just take up too much space. Let people make comments that are simple and easy to figure out.

To the low life that stole the pumpkin off the porch on Temple Street, you are on camera. You are looking at trespassing, theft, plus possession of stolen property unless you replace the pumpkin within the next three days or you will be charged those three crimes.

I have a large quantity of stuffed animals in excellent condition; the majority are beanie babies. I’m interested in donating them to a volunteer or charitable organization, especially one for children. Please give me a call at (607) 233-4430.

To someone looking for Bingo, there is no Bingo in Owego anymore. The Waterman Center at 403 Hilton Rd., Apalachin has Bingo the 1st and 3rd Saturday each month. It’s a small game; it starts with Early Bird at 12:45. They are looking for volunteer helpers to keep it going. If interested call 625-2221.

If you wish to participate, share your thoughts about the CONTRACT with the Board of Regents, they are scheduled to meet on Nov. 14 and 15. Should they consider termination of the CONTRACT? Email RegentsOffice@nysed.gov.

  1. I’m so glad to see that the Catatonk Community Hall is being repaired. I remember going there as a child for Halloween parties, and my mother working there at election time. So as a native of Catatonk and for all those that have memories as I do, thank you.
