4-H Giant Pumpkin auction to take place on October 2

The Tioga County 4-H Giant Pumpkin program will be holding an auction on Sunday, Oct. 2 at Iron Kettle Farm in Candor, N.Y. Youth participating in the Giant Pumpkin Project have been raising their pumpkins since April and their final activity is to auction the pumpkins off to the highest bidder.

Tioga County 4-H Members learned valuable lessons while raising their pumpkins resulting in a variety of pumpkin sizes and shapes.

Youth from across Tioga County will bring their pumpkins to Iron Kettle Farms on Friday, Sept. 30, for a weigh-in from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The pumpkins will then be on display for all to see until the auction on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 4:00 p.m.

All pumpkins, both big and small, will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Last year’s pumpkins weighed anywhere from 11 pounds up to a whopping 365 pounds.
