Tioga County Chairwoman Sauerbrey to serve on board of NYS Association of Counties

The New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) will welcome a new board member on Monday, when they convene in Niagara County for their 2016 Annual Meeting.

Tioga County Chairwoman Martha “Marti” C. Sauerbrey will be the newest member of the NYSAC Board of Directors beginning on Sept. 19, 2016, when the board meets as part of the NYSAC 2016 Fall Seminar.

Chairwoman Sauerbrey has over a decade of service to the people of Tioga County as a member of the County Legislature, and has served as Chair of the Board since 2014. Prior to being elected chair, Sauerbrey was Deputy Chair for four years. Before becoming chairwoman, she spent 15 years as the President and CEO of the Tioga County Chamber of Commerce.

“Chairwoman Sauerbrey will bring an important voice to our board of directors. Her experience in county government and with the Southern Tier business community will greatly complement the deliberations of the association. We look forward to her active participation,” said NYSAC President William E. Cherry, the Schoharie County treasurer.

Sauerbrey is a 2014 graduate of the County Government Institute (CGI), a collaborative training program between Cornell University and NYSAC. CGI is an educational program for elected and appointed county officials, designed to enhance the knowledge, skills and abilities of those who serve the public at the county level.

“I appreciate the positive impact that NYSAC has on the public policy environment in New York. They are tireless advocates for counties and local property taxpayers. I’m looking forward to learning and helping out wherever I can,” said Chairwoman Sauerbrey.

Earlier this year, Chairwoman Sauerbrey was elected to serve on the Board of Governors for the New York Municipal Insurance Reciprocal (NYMIR). NYMIR is a non-profit, licensed insurance program that serves over 880 local governments from across the state. NYMIR is owned by its local government member subscribers, and is governed by a dozen local leaders elected by representatives from the governments who are insured by the corporation.

The New York State Association of Counties is a bipartisan municipal association serving the counties of New York State including the City of New York. Organized in 1925, NYSAC’s mission is to represent, educate and advocate for Member Counties and the thousands of elected and appointed county officials who serve the public.
