Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation aids the Family Reading Partnership of Owego ApalachinThe Family Reading Partnership of Owego Apalachin (FRPOA) is pleased to announce a grant award from the Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation in the amount of $5,000 for the 2015-16 grant year.

This grant enabled FRPOA to purchase 4,130 children’s books that would have cost over $35,800 at retail prices. The Family Reading Partnership of Owego Apalachin, a totally volunteer non-profit, has as its mission the creation of a culture of literacy, one book, one child, and one family at a time. FRPOA promotes family reading and provides quality children books to families through many avenues.

Because research shows that the earlier a child is exposed to language by hearing books read aloud, the more neuro-pathways are formed for future learning, the books purchased with this grant primarily target children from birth to age five.

Family Reading Partnership of Owego Apalachin is very thankful to the Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation for its assistance in increasing the early literacy of the children of our community, making it possible for them to be more successful in school and therefore throughout their lives.
