Candor talk to focus on school history

The Candor Historical Society’s June 29 talk will focus on the historic Candor School District. From its early days of one-room school houses, the students, the teachers, Candor Free Academy’s fire, to centralization, and the many changes to the buildings and programs over the years, and much more will be open for discussion.

If you have story to share, this roundtable event is just the venue to bring along your alumni spirit and join the fun. For non-alumni, come find out what Candor’s school spirit is all about.

Historian Carol Henry will have a huge display chronicling the school’s beginnings up to and including some of the earlier renovations to the current complex, as well as a short video the Alumni Association put together in the 1980’s. There have been many more changes over the past 15 – 20 years, and this event will be a perfect time for everyone to talk about the history, the changes, and the “I Remember When’s,” and to catch up on what’s been happening.

The event will be held at the Candor Town Hall on Wednesday, June 29 at 7 p.m. The talk is free and open to the public, and everyone is encouraged to bring their stories and their pictures to share. For those who have a story to share for the Historical Society’s second volume of I Remember When, this would be a perfect time to bring your copy to the meeting.

Refreshments will be served. For more information about this and other Candor Historical Society events, contact President Milt Dougherty by calling (607) 659-7357 or by email to mhdough@frontiernet.net.
