Margraten visit for Memorial DayErwin Flohr from the Netherlands visits the graves of fallen Tioga County soldiers every Memorial Day and decorates them. The following is a letter he sent to Jim Raftis, Sr., as well as the photos.

Hello Mister Raftis,

Yesterday I visited the Margraten cemetery for Memorial Day. As always I decorated the graves of the Owego soldiers. Please find the pictures attached.

The text on the last picture, which is on a wall at the Margraten cemetery, is exactly what all people should think about, not only when visiting the cemetery. Unfortunately it never crosses the mind of a lot of people. Still brave men and women sacrifice their lives for other people’s freedom.

Today’s threats come from other and various sources and it’s a whole different ballgame to battle that, to put it in these words. So we have changed the way to handle this and this is an ongoing process because it will not stop. It’s a sure thing that there are a lot more people with their hearts and minds in the right place and will fight those who want to wage war or terrorize.

Unfortunately it will cost lives of brave men and women who are there to do that for us all and keep the peace. We should always honor them, now and forever.

Have a wonderful Memorial Day.

Best regards,

Erwin
