School budget restores what was lost

Dear Editor,

The Owego-Apalachin school budget is up for vote May 17. After years of cuts it is time to start restoring what was lost, and this budget does that.

Adding teachers at OFA means adding electives. Adding electives means the students can build up more college credit while in high school. Attaining college credit means there are now more options. One can gain an associate degree in one year instead of two, or a baccalaureate degree in three versus four years. Big savings. Get a job a year earlier. Major advantage.

Or perhaps use the year gained to complete a second major, enhancing skills for the job market. My own son was able to complete the requirements for two bachelor’s degrees.  It is a win for everyone.

It is time to show that you understand that school is there to educate and prepare the students for their adult life, and vote “YES” on the budget. The students will be the winners.

Sincerely,

Rich Ives
