The Owego Elks hosted a spaghetti dinner for the TC Hawks AAU Basketball teams on April 27, which was “Richard T. Cooper” day in the town of Owego. Richard Cooper was a basketball enthusiast and supporter of the AAU basketball team.
The players, along with parents, served many members of the Owego community. The team would like to thank everyone who kindly donated and supported them this season along with those who joined in celebrating the life of Mr. Cooper. A special gratitude of thanks for the donations from the Olive Garden, Price Chopper, Tops, Wegmans, Roma Bakery, Tioga Gardens, Owego Gymnastics, Dunkin Donuts, and the Owego Elks.
AAU Basketball has grown from a grass-roots program to an all-inclusive movement that extends from coast to coast. Tioga County joined this movement nearly six years ago – beginning with our own TC Hawks’ programs. It is important to note that many of our players come from various demographic backgrounds.
One of the great aspects about athletics is this ability to pull all sorts of people together to create a team, a team that works and produces together in spite of disparate history. AAU basketball offers us the opportunity to travel together, to eat together, to share (quite often) hotel rooms, and to forge bonds that will last a lifetime.
