T.A.L.L. announces May and June computer class schedule

The Tioga Adult Learning Lab (T.A.L.L.), a program of Literacy Volunteers of Broome / Tioga Counties, Inc., is now accepting registrations for basic skills computer classes to be held the months of May through June. All instruction is of no cost to the public. Pre-registration is required by contacting the Literacy Volunteers office at (607) 778-6406.

“Basics of Microsoft® Windows Word & Excel”, which focuses on the Windows operating system and helps students prepare simple documents using Microsoft Word and Excel, is a six-week class that will meet twice weekly on Monday and Tuesday evenings beginning Monday, May 2 and ending Tuesday June 7.

Also offered will be “Basics of Microsoft® PowerPoint”, a presentation program. The class will be for two evenings meeting on Wednesday, May 4 and Thursday May 5.

Another course scheduled in May and June is “Social Networking – Using Facebook”, where students can learn the basics of how to set up their own Facebook page. This one evening workshop will be held twice: Wednesday, May 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. or on Wednesday, June 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. (choose one session).

Other classes and workshops offered include: “E-Mail Basics” offered on Thursday, May 19, where students will learn how to use web-based e-mail for business or personal use; “Job Applications Online”, offered on Wednesday, May 25, where students can practice job searches, navigate websites and learn tips about applying for jobs online. Job seekers can also enroll in “Resume Success”, a two evening session focused on updating resumes and writing cover letters. This class will meet on Wednesday, June 1 and Thursday, June 2. Enrollment is limited to six students.

Each class will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. in Room 105 at the Owego Free Academy, Sheldon Guile Boulevard, Owego, N.Y. Students must be pre- registered to attend as seating is limited, and can do so by contacting the Literacy Office at (607) 778-6406.
