Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation celebrates 30th Anniversary

The Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation celebrates its 30th year of giving to non-profit community and youth organizations in Tioga County, N.Y. The Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation is a private Foundation established in 1985.

Mildred Faulkner Truman was a lifelong resident of Tioga County and upon her death, the Foundation was established under her Will. The Foundation’s mission focuses on capital and special projects that enhance programs by providing worthwhile grants to organizations that enhance and benefit the residents of Tioga County. It is the Foundation’s intent that through attention to such requests, the grants awarded will address the community’s challenges and make a significant difference.

The Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation distributes $350,000.00 to $400,000.00 annually to non-profit organizations in and around Tioga County. In addition to capital and special projects, the Foundation also provides scholarship grants to students in Tioga County pursuing higher education. Three high school seniors from all six of the Tioga County High Schools receive $1,000.00 each.

Students submit essays to their respective high school and are chosen to receive the scholarship based in part on their community service, academic grades, and desire to pursue a college education. Area colleges and universities also receive grants-in-aid scholarship awards for Tioga County students. Over the past 30 years, the Foundation has awarded $9,000,000.00 in grants to benefit the residents of Tioga County. The Foundation is designed to continue in perpetuity and looks forward to giving to the community for another 30 years and beyond to benefit the residents of Tioga County.

Any 501(c)(3) organization can apply to the Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation to be considered for a grant. All grants are considered based on their benefit to Tioga County residents. Applications can be submitted online through the Foundation’s website at www.mftf.net. Applications can also be obtained by calling the Foundation office at (607) 687-0225. Grant applications are reviewed bi-annually in January and June by the Foundation’s Advisory Committee. The Advisory Committee is comprised of nine members who are very community minded and dedicated to the Foundation’s mission and also Tioga County.
